my other char is arguably the trader with the most transaktions per time unit within eve.
the field i work in requires me to work from the station which is probably the most aktive busines hub in eve. there is no real choice about it. if i want to have the turnover i currently reach, i need to work from there. i play to be the best in my field. not the second or whatever.
this also means that i regulary use about 300 of my possible 305 buy/sell orders.
with that there comes the problem of course. with the help of the quickbar i can CHECK those orders pretty fast. i even can place new orders quite fast from the market window.
from time to time there comes somebody new and tries to carve his/her share from the market. offering better prices than i currently do. that means i have to adjust one or more of my orders. sometimes dozens or even a hundred if the competitor is serious. for that i need to open the wallet (orders view). at this point it sometimes feels like after jumping with a fleet into a hostile system with the gate on the other side heavily camped. yes right nothing goes. there is even "module lag" of the wallet reacting after many seconds or even minutes or even freezing. its not my hardware. performance depends largely on the population on the server.
suggestions that might help and which i want to have discussed here.:
update the market details only on first call and then not more often then 1 time per minute.
remove the my orders view from the market. its redundant imo
update the wallet (orders view) only when first opened or when ordered to. or at least give the option to do so. just imagine, what 300 orders do to the server when they ask to be updated every several seconds. at multiply that with the hundreds of people which have their wallet open at any time. realtime info is fine but it just doesnt work here.
seconds dont need to be shown in the market or in the wallet. unnecessary information.
in the wallet give the option to show only sell or buy orders.
what i would like best, but which would need a minor overhaul: : wallet could stay closed most of the time.make my own orders visible directly within the market details: give me the option by rightclicking to change my own orders within the market window.

It's already there.
Open market, on the top right side of the screen, you get 3(4) tabs: Details | Groups | My Orders | (Corporation Orders) (Last one if you have the correct rights)
Right clicking any order under "My orders" or "Corporation Orders" allows you to modify it, provided you are within your skill range
Cheers

I know what you are talking about. When checking buy and sell orders I sometimes need 30 minutes for a job that could be done within 3 minutes if not everything would refresh just because someone sold 1 tritanium to me. Often I stare at my screen waiting for the mouse cursor to change as a sign I can participate in the market game again. In this situations I spend 95% of my time staring at my screen waiting for updates and 5% playing the game.
I also assume this constant updates are a serious reason for lag which hurts everyone on that node, not only the traders. I don't know if switching to a refresh rate of 1 minute could be a solution, though. Constantly getting the "The specific order has been changed while you've updated your order. Please try again" (or whatever the exact content is) would not be fun as well.
One otion I see would be to force all people to sell certain items like tritanium for example at a minimum quantity. Sometimes I have pages in my market transactions exclusive of people who sell low amounts of f.e. 23 trit, 6 pyerite and 3 mexallon to me. No, limiting my own buy orders to 1m minimum quantity doesn't help with the general market lag. Such an enforced limit would dramaticly decrease market lag. It must be done in a way that the new pilot in his Impairor can sell his mined ore in a reasonable timeframe as well. I am talking about 1000 units but not 1 m tritanium as a minimum amount so the new player can sell his first minerals he just mined and refined on his first day.
This on the other hand would bring another problem. Many players refine their loot they just got and then sell the minerals. With an enforced minimum sell amount the database would have tons of stuff to store because players can't turn the recycled minerals into cash at once because of such a limit.
I don't really know what to do but this problem seems to increase exponential with the growing player base.
in the wallet give the option to show only sell or buy orders. Yes, this is a feature I often dreamed about, too. When you have f.e. several buy orders of one item in different systems of a region then you won't be able to see them all at once while having the market and the wallet opened at the same time.

very true!
its not only the orders tab. always when i want to buy 1 unit of whatever, i buy it and after that i just want to close the market, but i have to wait several seconds because the market is updating
I ALREADY BOUGHT THE STUFF! NO NEED TO UPDATE!
maybe im just a little impatient, others wait half an hour and i complain about seconds just add a little 'update' button if u really need to update or whatever. really hope this can be changed somehow.

I would like to see an "update info" button like the journal has for wallet.
I'd like to see it for escrow, too.
There's no need for it to update without an update request IMHO.
This is a serious problem for serious traders.
305? That's pretty good.
