Edited by: Senmar on 05/10/2006 21:42:24 I'm having some troubles with my ISP, namely I'm going over my bandwidth limit. I'm trying to ration and monitor internet usage between me and my girlfriend and I need to figure out how much data is getting transmitted for this game. Is there an easy way or program out there to help me find out? Or does anyone have a guesstimate or link to find out how much bandwidth it would take to do any of the following things for roughly an hour?
Trade in a busy system like Jita. Do level 3 missions. Rat in a secluded 0.0 section of space with little traffic.
I would appreciate any help in figuring this out. I've made a spreadsheet to monitor our file sharing programs, but I need to know if a) EVE takes a sizeable amount of bandwidth and b) how to monitor it.
I did previously find one network usage monitoring program, but it included any network usage i.e. transferring files between our two computers which made the data useless by the time we found that out.
Thanks in advance.

Edited by: Senmar on 05/10/2006 21:49:58 I have a cable modem, but we tend to download TV shows edited without the commercials that we can watch at our leisure, and other video files frequently. We've got a limit of 100GB per month, but we're consistently hitting 130GB per month or higher. The next plan up on their price plans is another $40 that we just can't justify/afford, and they said their last warning to cut down on bandwidth usage was the last one.
EDIT: Bandwidth might not be the right word. Volume of data uploaded/downloaded is what I'm really looking for, speed is irrelevant for this discussion.

EVE doesn't use a lot of bandwidth as far as I know. Basically, if you are not in any larger channels and docked all day I think MSN should be more bandwidth demanding.
In either case, check out the CTRL ALT SHIFT M network monitor. You could also try the native networking monitor in the Task Manager (windows's CTRL ALT DELETE)
Most of all, I'd check for other programs that might be communicating without your knowledge. Maybe your bitTorrent client needs be terminated through the status bar (or whatever it's called) - the latest version of Azureus do unless you fix it. - Three years old |

If you've got cable, your hitting your bandwith cap and you shouldn't be, and you like to download stuff from the interweb... Make sure nobody turned your computer into a fileserver when you were not looking.
Reformat, install a firewall, apply all the security patches. Only open stuff you got from the interweb when your using a non-super user account.

Du Meter
Super easy to use. Simple and free to try for 30 days.
It will tell you exactly how much bandwidth the computer you put it on is using at any given time, and keep track of monthly stats too. ___________________________________________ The deeper you stick it in your vein, the deeper the thoughts there's no more pain. ___________________________________________

Errrr, at home we have a connection with four IP's. We get 15GB total of monthly volume. Playing EVE (me) and WoW (brother) all vacation long didn't get us over it at all. Downloading stuff did. I really don't see your problem. 100Gig is like, heaven. I'd be already very happy with 100Gig a month. Heck, my HDD would be full in two months.
Bugger, wrong toon. I should delete this one.

What you need is a better ISP. Most of them don't have any limit.
But EVE uses barely anything, its the TV shows (and probably ****) that you're downloading...

TBH id be surprised if people use more then 100MB per month. Eve is very light on data usuage, it relies more on responce time(ping) lag anyone? Sitting in a station in JITA whould not use much data, maybe 100KB a minute? since youd probebly just be opening some market/escrow and doing a few chats.
I know people that run EVE on a 56k line and have NP atall doing so.

EVE uses a few kilobytes a minute.
Very little.

Well I monitored my EVE usuage for a month and got the following stats
~146MB over 30 days Playing on average 6 hours a day. That's around 800kb an hour.
It did go up and down certain days and hours. But as I'm a carebear this might be a low number due to no much people in the systems I'm in and PvP combat. But there is plenty of PvE combat in there.
Hope this helps. ___________________

eve's bandwidth usage is dependents on how populated the system you are in is. Eve for me takes about 2gig a month, but then I run 3 accounts. -----------

I just checked, and in the month of september, I used 115gb of down stream and 15gb of upstream bandwidth between my two computers.
What percentage of that is EVE? I'd guess less than 1%. I'm a busy little torrenter. (all legit, I assure you)

eve- radio is the problem. I can't listen to eve-radio because it would take up all my bandwith.
at 128kbps, I would use 480mb per hour listening to the station. Over a week of average 4 hrs daily, 12.9 gig will be consumed. -----------
