Hi, i read the sticky on learning skills, but i would like to know whether its worth taking the adv learning skills (eid mem etc) to L3-4 if you plan to play the game for about a year, maybe two. will the pay off in saved time be worth not training them?
i currently have all the learning skills at 4, and have been playing for about 1.5 months.

Depends.
If you wanna play every day and enjoy yourself no.
If you want to train learnings and go play BF2 for the next two months, then yeah it's worth it.

Yes they are worth it , if you plan on playing for more than 6 months. Lvl 4 for advanced will help soo much and lvl 5, only if you plan on playing for 3 or more years
Why go play a differant game? jsut go out and kill rats / mine for 2 months then train up fast, get in a better ship and have fun with teh game. |

is it me or someone is bitter
to the OP: you can also get some skills for what ever you plan to do for the next few month (lvl2-3 missions, mining, PvP) and then once you have the basic set where you can handle your task ok, switch to learning skills, they do pay off. Also if you are not planning to PvP it might be a good idea to get some +3s, they are cheap nowerdays

I have a couple of my learning skills to level 5 and the advanced learning skills of these to level 3. Mixed with my +3 implants My training time droped a huge amount. Example: With my skills now Rank 1 skills from 0 to 1 take 8 mins Rank 2 skills from 0 to 1 take 18 mins Rank 3 skills from 0 to 1 take 30 min Rank 4 skills from 0 to 1 take 41 mins ect. Thats just the 0 to level 1, I lost days off of Battle Crusier to level 5.
If you plan to play for a while it is worth it!

Hm, I think I will get some the skills to get in a ferox decently and then work on getting implants and adv. learnings to 3-4. don't intend to pvp for sometime more so implants should be a safe bet for now.
i suppose those times are for 1x training multiplier skills?

I say let EVEMon direct all your learning skills. It actually does the math and recommends them only when it will speed up the training to whatever goal you have chosen. If you decide to train them to a certain level you pick yourself, and then go train to get into that ship including the skills needed to fit the modules for that ship, you could actually spend longer training then you needed to. Here's an example with my POS alt (he's brand new, no training yet).
Adding Badger Mark II to EVEMon shows this training list:
Spaceship Command III Caldari Industrial I Caldari Industrial II Caldari Industrial III Total training time 1d/20h/21m/2s
There is a suggestion link however (at the bottom) that when clicked recommends adding the below skills to the training:
Spatial Awareness I <-- new Spatial Awareness II <-- new Iron Will II <-- new Spaceship Command III Caldari Industrial I Caldari Industrial II Caldari Industrial III Total training time 1d/17h/49s <-- note less total time
Note that even training more skills, I'm actually going to get into my Badger Mark II even faster because the learning skills have raised my stats. However, If I had just decided to train up spatial and iron will to 3 or 4 ahead of time, I'd actually spend more time on learning up front then I needed to. Now watch what happens when I bump Caldari Industrial up higher to get those extra ship bonuses:
New before:
Spatial Awareness I Spatial Awareness II Iron Will II Spaceship Command III Caldari Industrial I Caldari Industrial II Caldari Industrial III Caldari Industrial IV Total training time 7d/19h/6m/41s
New after:
Instant Recall I <-- new Analytical Mind I <-- new Spatial Awareness I Spatial Awareness II Iron Will II Spatial Awareness III <-- new Spaceship Command III Caldari Industrial I Caldari Industrial II Caldari Industrial III Caldari Industrial IV Total training time 7d/16h/29m/15s <-- note less total time
You will eventually train all the learning skills up, but this method balances really well the annoyance between wanting to get the benefit of the learning skills and getting access to new equipment as fast as you can. If you did nothing but train learning skills, you'd be doing a month straight if not more of just training those, putting your progression on hold. Why train a learning skill way up right away when you won't reap the benefit of it for a long time?
Note: For some reason I don't think EVEMon will ever recommend the actual learning skill. However it is a good skill to get trained to V eventually. I'd train that one overnight or just when you get a spare moment. Likewise, if you only ever do really short training goals (just to lvl1/2), EVEMon may not recommend the higher learning skills since they themselves take a long time to train. However if you load it up with a decent amount of skills or some of the more advanced levels (lvl4/5), it'll definitely suggest them, including the tier 2 learning skills.
