I'm an incursion noob and i think i've got it all worked out except for one small thorn.
I can't decide whether to fit my ship with Artillery for Alpha damage priority, or with Autocannons for DPS priority.
Which one do FC's usually want most, and why? |

It depends on too many things :D
And in an attempt not to assume anything, what ship are you planning to fly. I can make educated guess but..
It also depends on which fleet you wish to fly with and what size sites they focus on. With some fleets they focus their composition to do one specific type of site better than others, then there is consideration if your fleet likes to contest other fleets or not, and that sways the balance towards more alpha on field or not. |

Making the large assumption that you are talking about HQ sites, and another large assumption that as an incursion starter ship you're maybe talking about the maelstrom, then artillery is by far the more common and recommended.
It's not so much about the dps vs alpha, it's all about the range, and if you are a brawler (dps) or a sniper.
Hybrid blasters perform the dps role so well that autocannons and pulse lasers are very rarely seen.
Artillery on the other hand is just as viable and common as railguns and beam lasers in the sniper role. |

All wrong answers, every one of them. Take a Drake, your FC will immediately get you into a site. 
But seriously, have both fits on hand, get into an incursion channel, then ask the FC what he would rather have. Tada! No more guessing answers when you get it straight from the FC |

The incursion group you're flying with will have recommended/required fits for you to use. |
