Sounds like you are all primed to play by yourself. If you dont need chat channels, why be in an alliance? EVE is a social game, you cant cherry pick what you like about it (security in numbers), without the "negatives" (altho having a chat channel open is not really a negative). Other then that, blink off on corp and alliance windows, have local open only, and hide the chat pannel itself behind another UI element. EDIT - for the record, relying on Local as your security makes you a gigantic WIMP, just another carebear. try playing in wormholes, where the real men go and where real pew happens.

But what I would do is just squeeze the actual chat text box really thin and make the avatars/pictures of people in local larger. So you see the faces names of people in local but don't see any of the chat except a tiny sliver I guess

I placed my local on the left side, like a vertical bar. If you shrink it horizontally as far it will go, then turn off all portraits, it will effectively become a list of players. The player list has priority over the text space in resizing to it effectively hides all text.

Maybe CCP should introduce a new feature to remove/block all chats but just leave player list. I know I would undock more if I didnt have to worry about people bothering me with annoying chats
