Hey i was wondering if anyone has actually solved this problem before...
I was playing EVE and my comp froze so i rebooted and no picture came up, my computer beeped 3 times, then says "System failed VGA test." It seems countless people with ASUS MB's have had this problem the only issue is no one ever writes a post when they fix it!!!
My comp is...
Motherboard: A8N SLI premium from ASUS Ram: Corsair 2X 1Gb PC3200, 400MHz (the ones with the LED's =P) Hard drive: hitachi 250 GB GPU: Rdeaon 1800 all in wonder 256mb CPU: AMD 3700+ Monitor: Samsung syncmaster 930a Operating system: Windows XP home edition SP2 Case: XG Dragon
If i fogot anything just post something you need to know, please don't offer ideas unless you have looked through this problem on other forums and know how to solve it, or have an idea that hasnt been tried yet.
This comp has been working for 6 months with no issues!!!
P.S. I am offering immunity from poddong to anyone who helps me! lol just kidding i gonna pod you anyway, yarr.

Ah - I have a ASUS A8N-SLI Premium Mobo as well. I think I know what you're talking about. When it quits everything, goes into a blue screen and has an arse load of text I can never read? You're memory checks out, staying with-in the Mobos 1 2 or 4Gig policy so I take it that your comp is fairly new? Mine stopped doing this after 4 months of having it. Haven't seen it happen for 3 months to this date.

1) Pull out the video card, plug the monitor cable into the mobo video port.
2) If #1 doesn't work, reset BIOS.
3) If #2 doesn't work, flash the BIOS to latest version and set bios to default settings.

Edited by: Allen Miles on 07/10/2006 05:09:26 Sounds like the card is overheating. That is the first thing I would check. Are you overclocking it? If so, return it to default settings because if you messed with the voltage then that would cause it too.
PS: BTW, I don't think we have to worry about you podding us, our computers won't crash in battle!

Well that motherboard doesn't have onboard video so 1 is impossible.
Try and reseat the videocard. If that doesn't help try a different videocard.

Thanks for the help so far, but I can't do anything that requires me to go into the BIOS since I have NO picture.... and i have tried unconnect the video card and reconnected has no affect what so ever, also i tried resetting the mobo by removing the battery (someone told me to do that) also had no affect.

Are you using an AGP or PCI video card?

Might be a good idea to borrow another video card and see if that works, if so then its your video card that has gone ka-bloooey.
If not then its possibly you mo-bo that is shagged!
Got to www.anandtech.com forums and have a look there for more techy advoce. I saw one thread immediately that may be of use. Linkage
But generally it looks like consensus on this issue is that its PROBABLY the video card, and possibly the power supply, and sometimes the mo-bo itself.

try holding your bios reset button as you turn the computer on, you'll have to read your mobo manual or find some stuff on the net but if it's a bios problem that should sort it out for you, if it isn't then it'll not help at all ;p
