First I would like to say that I am well aware of the supply vs demand side of the game, so this is post is by no means a complaint post.
I been watching escrow for Gist B-type XL boosters and they are going anywhere from 700-800 mill right now and they are flying like hotcakes.
I been running lvl 3 missions for a while and going to be starting lvl 4s in a month when my appropriate skills finish training. I'l be flying a raven with Cruise Missiles initially until my T2 torps skills are finished.
With the prices of on those boosters as high as they are, I can not afford those things. Even if i were to buy one it would completely wipe me out. Being new to lvl 4s i expect to lose a a ship or two to learning process. Obviously having such expensive module would be bad :)
So i resigned myself to setting up Shield Booster, Shield Amp, 3 hardeners(2/1) and a Cap injector in the mids.
It will take me 2 months till am ready to start fitting T2 torps. Between torp skill training, advanced weapon upgrades and few other support skills, I think i'l have enough money to be able to afford a good booster about the time i finish training all the skills I want.
My question to you what are my alternatives until then? If not going Gist B-type xl?
From the regular mods it is a toss up between X-Large SB II and CL5. In 20 second time period they'l both boost the same amount(480x5cycles of 4sec each vs 600x4cycles of 5 second each), but SBII will cost me 400x4cycles or 1600 energy vs CL5 will cost me 400x5cycles or 2000energy. Looks like SBII will be a better from energy drain stand point. I am not worried about fitting requirements on CPU and PG atm.
I know there are Pith XL boosters out there. I also saw Gist C-type XL booster which does not boost as much as a B-type but costs in ball park of 400-500 mill atm. If any of you know of any other boosters that are step up from XL SBII in terms of shield boosted per second, or even energy used, I would appreciate if you could let me know the names. Thank you.

Just examine a tech1 XL booster and clicky varients, will show you all the possible options.
You don't need a raven and a 800 million ISK shield booster to do L4s. To afk in them maybe, but not to do them.

A Gist B-type Large has a incredible cap/hp ratio, and only cost around 130mill. The problem with them might be that they dont boost enuff when needed, but you can have them running 24/7. I used it before i got my Gist ype B- XL (cost less than 500mill) and it worked like a charm.

The alternative is a Gist B-type Large. My mids are:
Gist B-type large, Gist B-type SBA, 2 x Invuln II, 1 x photon, 1 x thermal (though if mission is only 2 damage types then I adjust the hardners appropriately)
Lows should be something like: most expensive damage controls you can afford x 1, 2 x BCS II, 2 x PDU II.
Stick with Cruise IIs + NOS - there isn't a lvl 4 mission you can't handle with them.

You might consider the Gist C-type Xl also,it does have a little lower boost then the B type. But its cheaper and i have yet to come across a mission it couldent handle..But your right dont fit expensive modulles like that, before you got an idea about the missions.

Large Shield Booster II does the job fine for me. I run a Cruise set-up, Large Booster II, 4 Hardeners and a Sensor Booster with a pair of PDUs and three BCUIIs in the lows. While my tank is not self sustaining it is sufficient for most of the level 4s, I warp out once on Right Hand.

Edited by: Jim McGregor on 07/10/2006 12:03:55 I run all level 4 missions without any faction mods at all. You just need a cap injector and lots of charges, and the correct hardeners. It gets the job done, and cap charges are pretty cheap.
Edit: On some missions I have to warp out once to redock and go back again... I remember one of the Worlds Collide stages being difficult for example.

I'm planning to use:
T2 XLBooster Gistii A-Type Small Booster DG BoostAmp T2 Invulnerability T2 Rat Specific Hardner x2
Everything should run forever at about 70% cap (also have 2 PDUs fitted), and the XL on manual for whenever things get rough. Does this set up for mids look like one that can tackle all the Level 4 missions?
Also, anyone know which of the L4s are the hardest ones and should be avoided initially? I know of Enemies Abound and Worlds Collide, but what else is there?

You don't need 2 boosters - just the 1 x Large gist would be sufficient. And it's cheaper than the A-type. An extra invuln 2 will help a lot.
