Stupid question, probably, but aside from the fact that there are a lot of people there, is there anything that makes Jita so special? I've never been myself, preferring to stick to Amarr space, but having seen it mentionned so often before, I am getting curious.

1. In the middle of Caldari space.
2. Near many major mission hubs.
3. Still is in and of itself a major mission hub, but far less nowadays: in the past it used to be even more because there was less lag.
4. Market hubs beget market hubs.

DEVS can do what they want - most players love to be in hubs - they feel warm and safe there when local is full of miner chatter and WTS posts. They simply love hubs and what ever DEVS would do to make people spread out over the galaxy, trust me: these people will find a new system.

On the other hand a central market is something that is ok - too bad that the server is not really able to run it smooth.

Central markets are impossible to prevent. its like why build a mall IRL, because lots of commerce in one place is better for all.
some days though with the prices jita is more like Walmart in space.
