If yes, how ? Because, heck, I'd do it, and many more probably would. And it would also be good for the people actually on the servers, the more people online the merrier (even if most don't understand a word you're saying).
It would be rather entertaining to be "one of the first" people in a "parallel EVE universe". And what if I wanted to continue the trial account made there ? How would a non-Chinese do that ? __
Any direct links (I don't read/understand Chinese at all, obviously) or precise instruction on HOW this can be done 100% LEGALLY (no bypasses of filters, no exploits, etc) would be highly appreciated. __ Always question everything. Including yourself. |

Edited by: Akita T on 09/10/2006 07:38:11 I distinctively recall threads telling about their experience with the Chinese cluster, so they're either Chinese themselves or actually got into the Chinese server. How "legal" that was, and if it can be done again legally, that was my question.
I even found (legitimate) signup links for the Chinese trial, but (surprise, surprise) all that happened was I got a "regular" (non-Chinese) trial (or I got both a Chinese and a non-Chinese trial, no idea, don't even know what to input as Chinese cluster IP in the first place).
AFAIK, it's only illegal for *Chinese* to play games with servers not PHYSICALLY LOCATED in China, but no idea if it's reciprocal (nobody else but Chinese allowed to play on Chinese servers... but that would be kind of dumb). Especially in light of the Chinese becoming a bit more Capitalist than Communist in recent years (actually, if I recall correctly, from a recent Discovery Channel documentary, "The Party" even encourages people to start their own bussiness). __ Always question everything. With less than 10k users online at peak hours on Serenity (the Chinese cluster) after almost 40k peak users during open beta... you could say they could use a bit of "manpower" over there with Tranquility experience.
And about the "chinese proxy" and all, that would be "bypassing", and doubt it would be "legal". And then there's still the issue of how WOULD you pay for an account there ? I don't ever plan on exchanging ISK for game time (nor vice-versa), so it would kind of be pointless to hide your intentions. __ Always question everything. Including yourself. |

Hmm, let me see...
1. Most of the T2 BPOs probably still available on the market 2. Most of 0.0 space unclaimed 3. Most characters are under 4 mil SP, or even less, if that much even 4. Most trade routes not farmed into oblivion 5. Most belts not stripmined yet 5. Will probably get way more users in the not-so-near future, might even end up linked with "regular" EVE server. 6. Even if it doesn't link up, it's still EVE and you'll be there almost from the start rather than tag along with a 60+ mil SP gap compared to the "top SP on server" character 7. etc etc
So, why WOULDN'T you want to play on Serenity (too) ? __ Always question everything. Including yourself. |

It'll never be linked up due to Chinese laws.

You need to have a Chinese National ID to even sign up for the trial. Good luck getting one of those legally. Second, the server probably doesn't accept connections from outside China, so you would need to use some kind of proxy, which is illegal for whoever is running it. And third, the entire client is in Chinese, so I hope you can read it.
Short story, you can't access Serenity without stepping on some kind of Chinese national law. I don't know what kind of penalties there would be, but I'm sure it wouldn't be fun.

I'm not aware of the Chinese National ID thingy, but, i DO know that there are account sellers on ebay.cn (ebay china), as well as GTC sellers on there. The 30 day GTCs are aprox 66 RMB, which is about $8-$9 USD. Oddly enough, the cd case and the inital CD key only costs 22 RMB (a bit under $3 USD) for the same 30 days... >_>.
I last checked this while i was still in china during my vacation... a VERY BASIC (JUST enough sp) caldari raven pilot account costed around 150RMB on ebay (i think)... which is about $20-ish USD. Not sure about now... and i dont excatly feel like going to check either, since the legality of this is... well... not very.

AFAIK, its not "illegal" in the Govt. laws sense of the word, but it is most likely against the rules of those running the server.

Hmmm I wonder if the trial will accept a SAR ID number and/or a connection from such a region (routed or direct)?
