Edited by: CottonBuddie on 09/10/2006 13:28:04 As you know the chinese cluster for EVE started out with big subscriber numbers, with around 30,000-40,000 players on at a time, it looked to be going well, but from what i hear, they are lucky to get 8,000 players on at a time now, i dont know if this if these numbers are completely correct.
Recently tranquility hit the 30k peak user mark, myself and others have noticed a lot of players that cant speak english atall who farm 0.0 systems with warp core fitted ravens and log out at the first sign of danger, they farm the same place every day and night without fail. I hear they are also farming the empire complexes, especially the gisti small modules.
Could it be that the players on the chinese cluster only joined so they could learn to play the game in their native language, before moving onto tranquility to farm with their new found understanding of the game? Not many people from over there can speak english, and learning to play a game like EVE in a language you dont understand would be next to impossible, my theory is that loads of them joined the china cluster just to learn to play the game in a language they understand, learn the game for a week or tow, perhaps up to a month or more, before moving to tranquilty in their new found job. This would explain why the subscriber rate started high, but rapidly dimished within the first few months, once they understand EVE properly, they move to tranquility for mass farming.

My guess is that it's dropped off because a lot of the infrastructure present on TQ (alliances, massive markets, etc) isn't present on the chinese server yet. I'm sure the market isn't nearly as advanced, nor is the universe as fleshed out with player content. This will change as the existing players build up the base of the game and the reputation spreads. _______________________________________________

Alliances and so on are available on the china server...
It was not massive when it began. In beta, it was massive. Since launch it has been small. --------

Its my understanding that the number of players logged onto the Chinese cluster is low, relative to the subscriber base, because the Chinese have laws which limit the amount of time a subscriber is allowed to play an online game.
Which is also why the subcription fee is lower.
Please put your tinfoil hat away.

Be respectful at all times. Sweeping generalisations and stereotypes about our chinese player base both here and on Senerity being farmers will not be tolerated.
We've said before and we'll say it again, if you can't discuss this without the offensive stereotypes you wont be allowed to discuss it at all.
