Just wondering is roleplaying promoted? Is there specific places where you are supposed to roleplay?

you can roleplay anywhere you want, there are some known rp corporations such as Oracle and Pie.
You can join them if you are either Amarr or minmatar.
On these forums Intergalatic Summit is roleplay only.

There's not a lot of dedicated roleplaying in EVE, but I've met very few people who won't get into it if I am roleplaying around them.
You'll run into people that will say: "ur a **** carebear n00b" for roleplaying. But you'll also run into people that will gladly roleplay with you. I've had some fairly deep philosophical discussions on slavery with Minmatar, as well as commentary on the legitimacy of guerilla resistance and terrorism vs. formal military action.
And you'll also find a lot of roleplaying in story form outside the game or on in-game websites. Visit my story section to see some examples: Rockbane Mining
Just try not to be offended when you run into the few rabid anti-roleplayers and you'll be fine.

I do a little bit of roleplaying now and then and I find it very easy to do in eve where it's "easier" to live the world then in i.e a fantasy game.
If I meet someone who roleplay, I gladly roleplay back to him/her. |

Your best bet is to find a strong RP corp. Not that many out there, but there are some good ones.
I'd be remiss in my duties if I didn't point out that my corp is both RP and hiring.

Gibbo there are RP Corps out ther fighting RP wars.. As Lianhaun said you just need to find the right corp...
I am not really aware of any RP Caldari or Gallente corps. To be honest at the moment there has been very little Gallente/Caldari RP content built into the game.
I cannot see your portrait as it gives me a VERY WEIRD effect so do not know what race you are.
My own corp PIE is an Amarr only corp and we only recruit Amarr who fly Amarr ships. We are honourable traditionalists who believe in defending the Amarr Empire and its traditions (i.e. slavery) from external threats...
Our main 'enemy' is Oracle Corp a group of Minmatar terrorists (some call them freedom fighters...bah) who conduct acts of terror to try and force Amarrian society to abandon the slave trade (how heretical of them!)
There are also a few other RP Amarr and Minmatar corps such as:
Amarr
Calammar Bringers of Hope
Imperial Dreams
Royal Amarrian Civil Defence Fleet
Dark Seraph
Minmatar
Peoples Front of Minmatar

Well, we roleplay a slightly more MLK-type Minmatar corp, as opposed to the Malcolm X-types, so we accept a broader range of ethnicities. When the war heats up I'm hoping we can do some non-violent protests, lots of sweet roleplaying material there.

It would be nice to get a bit more roleplay maybe they could do some NPC stuff that will get us all doing it?
