Why would you consider selling/trading them squat? You know they're scarfing up miners to add to their local macro mining sweat shop collection theme.

The first article is entirely wrong.
1) I play WoW and talk to one such gold farmer with regularity. Actually a pretty decent guy and far from the "evil gold farmer that steals our loot and rapes our women."
2) There are better articles by much more credible gaming media outlets. PC Gamer recently put out one such article.
Now that those two things are out of the way here is a brief summary.
The chinese who play wow to gold farm and farm isk etc in other games do so as part of their job. It's not a sweatshop at all. Their wages do pale in comparison to american salaries, but for their country it's considered a good median wage. The people who farm gold aren't the chinese social and mental elite. They are your country farm boys trying to make a better life and it's either work as a gold farmer or work in a factory sewing soccer balls or other menial labor for less pay.
