Eve devs should be legally allowed to wear an "S" on their chests. Except for Oveur. He gets the Orgasmo symbol. _

See? Look at that. as soon as the servers are back up, everyone stops complaining. Good job to CCP. Thats the fastest reboot ive ever seen. Kepp up the good work. My Opinions in no way reflect those of other members of ADVANCED Combat and Engineering.

Note that the standby machine has exacly the same specs as the primary one, so there will be no performance degradion due to this, except for the temporary overhead of repopulating the RAM of the server.
I am going to go with this as one of the issues as why people are getting stuck on the character selection screen, also add to the fact 18,000 people are all probably trying to log in at the same time. Be paitent and I am sure it will be back in full swing soon :) ----------

There's a good chance that you're on the character load screen because the server has to reload all that information. It took me a while, too, but it did eventually load. Patience is key. _

More news.
After some research, it turns out that the active database machine lost connectivity to its disk arrays. This is a bad thing to happen to a live database server.
The cause of the connection loss is unknown at this time, but I have verified that the database did not suffer any corruption due to this, only a few rolled back transactions.
To add some good news. I packed and shipped to London today some hardware for the database storage system and we will install that, along with a new RAMSAN, in few weeks. ------ Valar Database admin - Server operations team CCP Games How to write a good bugreport |

Give it at least 2 minutes to connect, with 1000's of players reconnecting, no surprise that it's slow to log in.

You are correct. After a failover, especially if the server is not starting up at its regular time, at 11:25 or 11:45, there is quite a bit of lag the first 30 minutes or so. The overhead of the failover should be fully gone in less then 2 hours. ------ Valar Database admin - Server operations team CCP Games How to write a good bugreport |

They have been doing some testing on SiSi with the node's failing, hopefully the team has found a few issues and are working on some fixes for that. It's always fun to die in battle screaming out the name of your target, but not when the node dies and you lose your ship because of it.
Seems the server though has cleared up as people are being able to connect with no issues now it seems. Good work guys on getting it back up and running so fast. ----------

Its prolly a little out of your price range, but something a little beefier to upgrade to:
http://www-03.ibm.com/servers/storage/disk/ds8000/index.html
best part, 2 cluster built into it, and it features seamless failovers. server wouldnt go down next time.
as a bonus, I work at IBM, on this product. You cannot corrupt your data, a confirmed write on this server means you have the data, battery backed cache means its still fast.
prolly wont beat the RAMSAN in random access tho, its still disk based. But it does feature peer to peer real time long distance remote copy, and point in time copy. you could snatch the database for an update for SISI while the database is live and being updated.
also has logical partitions, for multuple server images, and not just storage images, you can run application images as well.
There is always a better solution :)

Bad thunder and lightning over south england last night, there was a big lightning flash and our lights went dead for 2 seconds, then back on again, at exactly the same time our internet died completely for 5 minutes, about half an hour later the EVE server crashed during the storm, related somehow?
