As a one man corp you can get access tyo those features requiring you to be in a player corp:
1. corp hangars 2. corp standings 3. pos's
But most importantly, you're not being a lameass game mechanic dodger by hanging out in your npc corp way longer then you need to be. That's not something you need to worry about ye if you're really new, but if you're still there in a few months you've hit rock bottom allright.

Well, it all depends.
Comparing a 1 man corp to NPC corp is hard to do objectively.
Pros of a 1 man corp are no crowds in corp chat, not being referred to as a "newb" as much, and being able to war dec otehrs and be war decced.
Cons are, not having anyone in corp chat to talk to, being assumed to be an ignorant newb, and being able to be war decced by anyone who is bored.

If you're playing solo now, but may want to join a corp later then a one man corp might make things slightly easier. A lot of corp recruiters look at a character that has been in the noob corp for a year and think "This is an alt" or "There is something suspicious about this person". It can make it more difficult to get recruited. Of course you may ask yourself if you want to join a corp like that in the first place but many corps are, for a variety of reasons, this suspicious.
You may also find that being in a one man corp gives you a slightly easier ride in 0.0. For some reason, I find that people will immediately cry "alt spy!" and hunt you down when you're in a noob corp but not when you're in a small corp that they know nothing about. Weird but, in my experience at least, true.

One man corp? Blah...your make an easy target. NPC corp? Blah...your be branded as a carebear for life.
Find a good multitasking corp to join. One that WONT demand your Real life be given to them in sacrafice.
Eve-online is NOT a solo game, can be played as so, but was ment to be corprate. Playing solo is a waste of your time, and should not be done.
Free-form Professions, ensure no limetations on professions. Be a trader, fighter, industialist, researcher, hunter pirate or mixture of them all.

You dont need to be in player corporation unless you want to build your own POS (Player Owned Structure/Station) or make jump clones. These two things need corporation standing towards faction (in case of POS, you need to be in player corp to build it no matter what your standing is).
If you are doing some large scale trading operations, corporation wallect may help a bit, but it isnt necessary. Corporation hangar is useless for one player corporation.
If you want to make an outpost, you need to create an alliance, which requires corporation.
For refining, your personal standing is ok, so you can stay in NPC corp.
NPC corporation provides safety, no one can declare war on you and hunt you. If you create one man corporation, sooner or later someone will declare war on you, either for fun or for ransom.
So my conclusion, as long as you don't need POS and jump clones, stay in NPC.

Really? How often do one man corps get war declared? How much fun do you think a PvP corp would have camping just one man?
very little is the answer to both. |

IMO rock bottom is resorting to joining BOB alliance.

Anyone can refine ore to minerals, it takes the refiner's personal standing towards the station owner's corporation in account when determining how much ore they take as tax.
Think of corporation hangars as 7 extra hangars to put stuff in. You need to pay rent for each office you rent, though, and there's a limit to the number of offices each station can offer to players.
POS is a catch-all for player owned structure (more commonly, however, Player Owned Starbase). Unless you are in a player corporation you may not anchor Starbase structures anywhere. These starbases allow you to gather advanced materials from moons, among other things, which can then be refined into better materials or sold. These materials and refined materials are used in all manner of T2 production, and there's a pretty decent demand for them - a demand that WILL rise with Kali patch (since invented BPCs will require a lot more of these materials as well as make many more people produce using them) - Three years old |

You don't need to be in a player corp to install a jump clone... you just need +8.0 standing with the station owning the corp. I know I installed my jump clones in Caldari Navy Logistic Support stations when I was in a NPC corp (Perkone, more precisely). __ Always question everything. Including yourself. |

Just to add a little information about jump clones.
Actually you CAN and it is pretty easy to get jump clones when in a NPC corp. You just need to get 8.+ in personal standing with ANY NPC corp belonging to the same faction as the NPC corp you are in your self. ---------------- Mr. Science & Trade Institute |
