go to your assets window in the side panel. it shows you everything you own and in which stations they are located.

Once you've found the skill book right click on the grey bar that details the system and station and select set destination (i think - doing this from memory). Then auto pilto happily to your destination.

As far as searching, a name like "Oursulaert VII - Federal Navy Academy" breaks down as follows:
Oursulaert - the name of the system VII - 7th planet Federal Navy Academy - The name of the station orbiting the 7th planet
The autopilot doesn't deal with planets and stations, it just plots courses between star systems, so if you wanted to search, you would have to type in only Oursulaert, and not VII or anything else.
Anyway, Assets button is the better way.

And once you get to the system, right click on that same grey bar and choose dock, it will warp you to the station and begin the docking approach.

Assets window is the way to go for alot of your autopilot destination needs!
If, however, you need to use the search feature, understand that the search function can handle partial string searches, so just typing in 'ours' will return oursulaert. This is to help you if you cannot remember the full name or are a bad typist--you only have to type a few letters correctly.

Also, next time to buy a skillbook, try to buy one closest to you (by viewing more details in the market screen, and organize by the # of jumps tab). There are many places in empire with most skillbooks, so there were probably quite a few closer.
