I was quite happy in a Brutix. Filled up six highs with 250mm, tractor, webber, some cap mods, standard MAR + 3 active hardener tank, etc.
And a bay of Vespas to see off drones. It ran missions about as fast as my Prophecy and a little slower than my Cyclone (which is just uber).

Cool, i'll try that then. Did first lvl 3 in my thorax but the 2nd mission I was giving is just near impossible :(
I was thinking of upgrading to Brutix its' just affording it atm.
The set up sound cool though so cheers :)

Yeah, I wouldn't try L3s in a Thorax. Most of them can be done with good skills but it's not terribly efficient; and some are just impossible.
The Brutix has a much better tank and the space to fit railguns, which gives you the range you'll need. Might want to have a read of this thread to see how people fit theirs differently for missions.

Vexor can do it better than Thorax. Less prone to get webbed and laughed at from 9km orbit. But good skills and general mission knowlege is required.
As a general note I should add, that if you going to serious agent running, go for BS as soon as possible. BC is not something that will have easy walk in later lvl 4, and it quickly become very very long, unnerving and anoying.
Dominix is more or less cheap while been very mean to every mission lvl (except some exceptions )

Assuming you dont want to stretch yourself with an Enyo and you dont have top skills to be able to do them with a Brutix comfortably, why dont use a Dominix, or if you have really low skills then use Mega with 7x250IIs ans 1xL Smartbomb works fine...
(If you are uber 1337 use Incursus with blasters and structure tank )

Edited by: OldPueblo on 11/10/2006 17:30:01 How are your drone skills? Try a vexor with only drones for damage, leaving the rest of your cpu/grid for tank (plate, etc) until you can afford something bigger like a brutix/dominix.

I always used a dominix with :
6 x 250
1 x ab II 1 x web 1 x sensor bosoter 2 x cap recharger 2 x medium II reps 3 x active hardners 1 x dmc 1 x cap relay
ogre II, hamm II, and a mix of hornet and acolyte II for frigs
but if your strapped due to skills and cash a brutix ( not sure ona set-up) works just as well maybe better ____________________________________________

I say get a battleship, lvl3 missions will be cake in one. You're ship fit wont matter as much and you wont need to spend as many slots on fitting a tank so you can put a nano hull upgrade and mag stab and do the missions even faster.
Work on getting better skills and mods for your battleship and a some point you will be able to start taking it on lvl4 missions. Since I'm still not sure in which race I want to fly, now I can farm lvl3 missions I'm working on learning and fitting skills that are not race specific.
I started doing lvl3 missions in a prophecy and I was warping out all the damn time that was mostly because you need uber cap skills to be able to tank and fire lasers in amarr ships. I fitted projectile weapons and lvl 3 misions were a lot easier. But I got sick of amarr ships and trained hybrid weapons and started using the brutix. It was even better still. Then I decided since I already had some training in amarr I would get an Apoc for mining since it can fit 8 miner II and 2 mining upgrades.
Finaly I trained 1 level in large energy turret and started doing lvl3 misisons in the apoc, and it's cake. I wish I went for a battleship to start with. ---------------------- I fly Amarr and Gallente ships Amarr because they peow peow and look cool... Gallente because they are effective |

brutix.
7x 200mm 10mn ab, 2x cap rechargers, web med rep, 3 hardeners/adaptive membranes, cap relay.
dont bother with other ammo apart from antimatter. if fighting serps, use heavy ion blasters.
people who do 3s in BSes disgust me ----------------

Spending time and money on training for ship you never realy going to use in mainstream lvl 4 is better? Just to give NPC an doubtful honour? That's rubish. BS is the best for newbie to use from 3 to 4. High speed, high profit, good experience.
The only reason to not use it - you having firm decision in training for other ship class (like CS, HAC, AF). But that's is not going to be for real money, just for challenge and spare cash to PvP a little.

Will depend on your skills. You could probably do them in a thorax with good skills. With average skills you could do them in a brutix, and if you really want easy (or low skill) mode, do them in a dominix or ishtar.

Some people just prefer lvl3s, you know. I stopped doing 4s nearly 1.5 years ago, and I havent flown a BS in about as long.
Anyway, lvl3s are just something to do when youve jumpcloned to highsec for a while, for w/e reason.
And yes, all the people hull-repping BSses outside lvl3 stations... and then losing them to the 1st lvl4. Good training indeed.
If you cant do 3s in a *cruiser*, you shouldnt even think of going into 4s.
Please lets not to promote the kind of playstyle that has people attempt to fly shield-tanked lasersniperthrons, k? ----------------

Please promote that playstyle. Those type of megathron fittings are easy prey for my arazu :)

I'm actually a little different. I started out doing L3s ages ago before hopping a Typhoon to try some L4s.
Tricky, at low skills, but it was a nice short break from L3s. Nowadays I'm back in my Prophecy optimising out all the support skills before pushing Battlecruisers V for the Absolution. Then I'll be back in L4s without any BS in sight.
(that skill path is mostly because I like to PvP in BCs, but it has a nice PvE side effect)

Slightly threadjacky, but: same here, got BC 5 doign the leadeship shyte now - I also pvp in BCs, when I havent overinvested myself in BPOs and am saving for an Absolution...
Tried a few 4s in a HACs but frankly a bit dull thanks to the speed of it.
Oh and after kali Drake ftw I think (7 heavy assault launchers, hi!)
And yeah, actually people who cant fit BS to save their lives ftw, at least when they get recruited by your enemies ----------------

for lvl 3 missions I had one goal in mind.. doing as many missions as possible in the shortest amount of time (just to get to lvl 4 missions fast)
I used an Enyo with a webber, at the time I could not use t2 guns so I used the best named Ions I could find with a rocket launcher. in lows I put in a rep II, a magstab (named or t2) and a passive armor hardener (depending on what I was fighting) I would swap out a mwd or ab II in the mids depending on if it was deadspace
could crank through missions fast in that and the assault ships are tough little nuts and can warp out if things start looking bad..
use Anitmatter and just orbit at 500m and cut them in half one by one..
However... I have not done lvl 3 in a long while, so if things have changed a lot in the last year then this might not be optimal..

I ripped through level 3s in an enyo and ishkur a few months ago when I was upping my federation navy standings. They worked fine for it then.
