Instead of the green boxes let's just put a standing symbol over the avatars in local chat.
If you're +5 you get the light blue + symbol over your char. If you're a war target you get the red star. Same as overview just in local that's all.
Is this a feasible thing to implement? ---

Edited by: Darksaber64x on 11/10/2006 15:25:10 Sounds good. Having a bazillion people on your buddy list dosn't make anyone happy :(
It makes it seem like you have a lot of friends, when you actually have none.

I've noticed that my buddy list is laggy as hell too. Was figuring this would cut down on the lag the addressbook generates heh. ---

But gettingrid of local does not seem to ever happen. Yay for no local, but if there is and will be local, let ot work without a thousands of silly character info checking and houndreds of people in buddy.

Please, remove local as an intelligence tool altogether. Simply make it display players-in-system in 'Delayed' mode instead of 'Immediate', as it is now. Then remove the 'number in channel' located next to the word 'Local' in the tab.
What would this change? For one, you wouldn't be able to judge, from a quick glance, exactly who was in system. Sound like more work for everyone? You bet. But it WOULD lower the amount of lag as now two opposing forces aren't scrolling and left clicking with each new player in the system.
Secondly, it would force the use of the scanner (and the improved Kali scanner). It would play in the favor of both pirates (who's prey would have no immediate way of knowing they are there) and law-abiding citizens (who would be able to hide in anonymity).
Does this take away one of most-used tools of the game? You bet. But I believe it's fair, and it makes sense, both with roleplay and gameplay in mind.
But noooo ... it will never happen. Don't make people work for the intel. Don't make things a little more difficult. That's insane ...

If you make those changes, Ruze, you may as well just take the channel away except in high-sec empire, because nobody in low-sec would use it, and in 0.0 you'd get your butt kicked by your own alliance for using it.
A better idea is to make it possible to leave local chat, and neither see it nor appear on it, or to open it up and both see it and appear on it. That makes it a tactical tool for scouts, and allows opposing forces to identify one another's scouts without pinpointing the location of their fleet or the identity and number of their warriors.
As to the OP, I'm in favor. Big address books cause lag, I'm told, and even if you don't add the handy standings indicator on the local chat channel (It might add lag to do that, too, but I'm not sure how much), at least get rid of the green "Online" block. It's idiotic, since you can pretty much assume that anyone in the system with you is logged onto the EvE server, and it provides a source of intel that should either be condoned and turned into a useful tool or condemned and eliminated.

Edited by: Mak''shar Karrde on 12/10/2006 04:54:42 How about making a boost to the sovereignty system?
If you own the space, you are assumed to own the statgates, the stargates are presumably how everyone knows who's in local. Therefore, only the controlling alliance should be in control of the information. They get a list of everyone in the system, their standings towards the corp/alliance and all the good stuff. You could configure the gates to release information to allies or friends the same way you can configure docking rights for station.
If you're in space you do not control then you get no information at all. You have no idea who enters the system other than the information your Covert ops pilot, who's watching the gate with his own eyes, gives you.
In Empire the gate information is released to Concord who've decided to make the information public. Or some such nonsense, resulting in everyone being able to see everyone else in Empire space.

Of all the ideas posted, I have to side with Mak'shar Karrde's.
You SHOULD have a tactical advantage when controling a system and an invading ennemy SHOULD have a tactical disadvantage. It's logical. So a Corp who has control of the gates would get its intel, and others would not unless configured by the controlling corp/alliance...
However, anyone who starts to banter about in local chat would render his information available to any enemy scout.
And do get rid of that green dot, just display the damn standing as a colored bar or something, right-clicking everyone in local is such a pain (litterally) and I'm sure everyone's adress book is probably partly responsible for some node crashes.
And Empire high-sec space is just what it should be: high-sec, hence you see all the info on local.

Dude if they implement this you can have my babies, I so want sumit like this as it's well over due.
Is silly that we can jump into a 200+ strong system and know everyones name and wha they look like but not know if we are friends don't ya think.
However, I would rather see names and numbers removed from local in total but that's just me. Your signature is inappropriate ( copyrighted material). Please read the forum rules before reposting- Tirg |
