i fly caldari and i have missile and gun skills. i used missiles a lot but now want to try guns for something different (instant hit damage etc). can you guys tell me which ammo is best? i know like say iron gives a range bonus but with it's damage you might as well be spitting on the enemy. and antimatter does most damage but with a big range penality. what's the "sweet spot" of rail ammo? btw, will be flying a cormorant for the while at least, maybe buy a moa too. i got a scorpion, caracal and kestrel in my hangar too.

Caldari railgun ships usually have a range bonus, so train up your spaceship command skills so you can use antimatter and still have decent range.
In my opinion skip the Cormorant and go straight for the Moa.

iridium is the T1 sweet spot as it will usually allow you to hit near you max targeting rnage without sensor bossters ect, but in relaity you fit the highest dmage ammo for the situation your in

well dont laugh but i was thinking some low sec ratting. i used to rat in 0.0 using a raven, but that got blown up. my scorpion can handle the low sec, but not all the spawns. and it gets boring. and i do my scorp fitted for 1 vs 1 pvp...if you know what i mean. i've been ganked so many times... i want to do some ganking now. i was thinking of using the Moa in pvp to pop frigs and whatnot.

For the cormorant, just train up for T2 small rails. Training time for them isnt too bad, and the difference in range and damage is night and day compared to a t1 setup. You will get at least 30-50k range with spike, possibly more depending on skills and setup, and the damage with spike is almost the same as a t1 rail with antimatter.

Iridium and antimatter are pretty good.
Tungsten can be in frigs or when you are low on range skills pretty well, but iridium has more damage and still range.

i've been npc'ing in a shield tanked t1 350mm rail domi recently (yeh i know, my setup stinks :p but it does what i need it to do) and i've been using lead ammo a lot. the -50% cap bonus can be pretty useful (not to mention 50km optimal). Thorium is another nice choice, with its -40% cap usage bonus and a bit more damage output.

in solo (gate camping) and in large groups, sniping works well. Spike... Sweet spot for me out of a 425 II is 187km. You can reach out and touch something at 200+km, the falloff is in the mid 20's. I am working on increasing that range tho. I have one more skill to train up to level 5 and I'll be range capped.
that's a megathron tho. I don't know how most caldari ships work.
I'd probably train up HAC's and get an eagle if I were you. They can hit from the same distances and do mad damage with better tracking. Inty's worst nightmare. gallente doesn't have a sniper hac.
Train heavy assault ships straight up to 5. Everyone I know that flys an eagle loves them.
-Kal /*----------------------------------------------------------------------------------*/ My opinion in no way represents that of my corp or anyone I am associated with, and is probably entirely wrong. |
