From video it looks like a small plane or helicopter, and only one building with fire. Apparently firefighters are getting it under control. Still, scary as hell to see on the news. _______________________________________________

Either:
1) terrorists suck, they can't do anything right 2) someone can't fly a plane successfully
Regardless, ugh

And just so you know:
I work about 20 blocks from where that happened. No, there's not widespread panic and people fearing for their lives running in the streets - like the oversensationalist media are already starting to paint it up to look like.
It's mildly amusing that this happened not terribly far from where the guy blew up his own house over on the east side a couple of months ago. (friggin' looney)

that is just up where my girlfriend works. it isnt a huge deal at all. it was a helicopter. as far as i know, only 2 casualties, the two people in the apartment that the heli actually hit. there is still a fire, but its nothing crazy. i just got a call from a friend freaking out as they heard another plane hit. its a ~3 apartment fire, caused by a small helicopter hitting a building, nothing to start a war over (though i do know of one guy in a round office that might try)

Stanard operating procedure now, I believe - in the event that any aircraft smack into a building around here.
Got one person here at the office who is donning her tinfoil hat (much to the dismay of the rest of us).
Then again, she's the same one who's saying this is reopening her trauma of going through 9-11 all over again (note: she was way at the north end of manhattan at the time, did not know anyone personally killed or injured in the attack, and almost never ever goes to that area of the city).
*sigh*
But no, most NY'ers are *not* like that one. Thankfully.

Looks like you're trying to be a bit more broad than this thread is really addressing.
Has nothing to do with what people are or aren't worry about.
But if it makes you feel better to think that you're the only one who cares about what's going on in the world at large, feel free.
Being that this thread addresses a current news headline, and happens to be less than a couple of miles from where I'm currently sitting - I'd say it's fair game for discussion.
Worth worrying about? Not at all. Can't see anyone in this thread that seems worried about it though. (Unless you count dread at the impending media retardation).

Edited by: Spiderweb on 11/10/2006 23:03:19 That plane crash was exactly what Bush wanted.
Even if its an accident (99% probably) expect the "awesome" US president to get a rating bonus.
Fear works.
Mark my words, just check the ratings for this week/month after a while and you will see.

I fail to see how Bush or the Republican party can gain anything from this. It was a pure freak accident and had nothing to do with terrorism at all, just a very unlucky pitcher my he rest in peace.
I don't know how many other people died for sure, but I feel really bad for the people that died in the apartments. Imagine just sitting down and going to watch the news and *bang* a plane crashes into your living room exploding into a ball of fire. Its really sad. But having to do with terrorism, nada zip and no way can anyone gain anything political. {o,o} |)__) -"-"- O RLY?

though its just a tragic accident, the reminder of 9/11 and the panic created by media have caused higher than normal levels of fear to appear on the public even by simple association. Bush's influence is largely affected by that fear factor (no , not that horrible TV show) of the "enemy" that waits to strike like a damocles sword. I believe the media circus created a sufficient level of association in the minds of many individuals, that will affect opinion polls for this week/month. just check the opinion polls after a while -----------------------------------------------

While it may influence polls, I seriously doubt it will ofset the Foley incident for the GOP. Personally, I think the GOP is hosed this coming term for the house. Not saying thats a bad thing. Checks and Balances is a good thing to have. {o,o} |)__) -"-"- O RLY?
