I have been reading every FAQ, and newbie documentation that I can get my hands on. I have heard to always have a warp point active while mining to get away from trouble, and to make sure your ship is oriented toward that target.
How do you go about orienting your ship toward a bookmark without actually moving away from your current position?
Thanks!
Jubil.

Find a celestial object that the warp point is near (or to, in the case of an insta). Double-click in space near that in such a way that your ship starts flying in that direction. If you intend to be there for a while, set your speed to the minimum. If you intend to leave very soon, let your ship accellerate so you it doesn't need to when you give the order to warp.

Okay, say you have an insta-dock bookmark for a station in the system. When you arrive wherever it is you need to be to mine, find the station icon in-space and double click as close as you can to it so that your ship starts flying in the direction of it. (Unfortunately clicking it just selects the station and only gives you the option to warp to it, not approach it.) Then immediately hit ctrl+space, or the far left side of your velocity meter, to stop your ship. Now your ship will be pointing in the direction of the station and you can start mining away. If you need to warp out immediately all your ship will have to do is accelerate instead of also having to turn the ship to align with the object. Big ships can take a painfully long time to turn, like mining barges or industrials. You still have to wait for it to power up your velocity before going to warp, but it definitely shaves time off.

Great! Thanks for the help!
I really like the Ctrl-Space method of shuting down the engines! I will definetly be using that trick!

when i'm in bigger ships (like a mining barge) then as soon as i arrive at the area I want to be in, I start the warping process and the second my ship stops turning, i cancel the warp - this leaves me in the spot i need, but aligned to the right direction.

i still don`t have proof for this but in my opinion it doesn`t matter in which direction your ship is facing when stopped... it still takes the same time to accelerate in any direction --
The short span of Culture Fourteen's reign is objective proof that as a way of life, peace is a failure.

have you flown a mining barge in low-sec or 0.0 lately? aligning to the gate cuts seconds off my warp-out time and has (literally) saved my neck several times

Mining barges are really frakkin slow. It's funny cause the first 90% of the turn goes quickly, but it's that last 10% of adjustment that seems to take forever.
The warp trick is good too, ctrl+space will abort the warp also.
