I'm just returning to Eve after a four or five month break for school, and it seems missions have been changed for the worst.
Before I left I was a mission-runner, running level three missions in my brutix for my income, however, now I can't do 90% of the level three missions, they're all like 10-20 ships against you that all aggro you at once. The one I've gotten the most consists of sentry guns, about four cruisers, three 30k bounty frigates that rush out to web you- seemingly moving at 1km/sec and then three brutix class battlecruisers. Now, doesn't that seem just a little impractical against ONE battlecruiser? Let alone being one of the slowest ways to make money.
This has basically ruined my livelyhood in the game, I've just begun sitting around mining as I don't feel like doing level two missions with 4 million skill points. It doesn't make any sense to me, miners can mine full cargo containers of ore in short time and sell for over three mil, couriers and manufacturers can work in secure space indefinately, so why are combat-oriented characters being all but forced out into low security space to be pirate bait before they're strong enough or comfortable?
Frankly all I wanted to do was build my skills and get a battleship so I can join a good corporation and get out to 0.0 space to make some real money. Now I don't know what to do.
Now, flame away at my ineptitude, but if anyone agrees I'd like hear it, and if not how about some creative advice?

For starters, whats your setup? It may be less that the mish are harder, and more that your old setup isnt good for the current mish landscape. I'll agree they are harder, but they're do-able by any class of player. One word,, emo,,, |

I'd agree, their harder, but I do like the challenge...
My only gripe is how if I kill a battleship in a 4, it'll drop a 10mn, a miner 1, an acolyte 1 and maybe some large ammo if I'm lucky.

I've run level 3's in my Brutix for a few weeks. I find that if you use a good, solid tank with railguns (200mm rail II, on mine), the missions are all easy. You have to match your tank to the rats, of course, but it's really not that big of a deal. I've since moved on to doing them in a dual rep Curse, which is faster, but I'll sometimes run them in a Vengeance for kicks. I agree that they're harder than they used to be, but they're not that hard...

It probably was a month or so ago, but most of them are doable in a thorax. And the few that are not, were completly doable when I brought a friend. Nothing says the missions are supposed to be done solo, even if they can be. And as the other noted, for most lvl 3 missions, the Brutix is the most suited ship around. Doesnt have the overkill of a BS or HAC or anything, but will still get the job done.
About the miners, approximatley a third of the minerals can be found in hisec(5/15(6/15 but Kernite and omber are in different parts of EVE afaik)). And those are naturaly the least rewarding ones. Agents are all available in highsec with slightly lower rewards. I'm personally working for a q17 lvl 4 agent now, in the middle of relative safeness.(0.8 or something not quite sure). So the availability of agents shouldnt really be whats pushing you out in lowsec, thats just a tad extra income, and a minimal one compared to the miners extra isk.
Of course, the ratters do get quite alot of extra cash when heading down to 0.0, then again, if the 0.0 rats where in 0.6-0.5, you wouldnt be able to face them, and that would be the issue.
Now This wasnt meant to be rude, but Im still hardly awake, and I guess my morningmood is a tad less udnerstanding or grumpy, because I really am not sure what your point was. Except for easier missions. Sorry.
PS. If you made a poll, I think most would answer theyd rather even harder more rewarding missions then easier. Aka lvl V agents.

Totally agree with you, I've come back to lvl 4 missions after many months break my first experiance I lost 2 Ravens. I'm sure that once I've got my head around how things now work It will be better but the learning curve is going to be steep and expensive.
Why not think about joining a mission based corp and splitting all the loot and isk you would simply take it in turns to get the missions so you still build up loyalty points. Don't really know if that would work but it's worth a try.

Its only a matter of the fitting doing lvl 3 missions. A Ferox as example is a pretty nice tank and you can do all lvl 3 Missions, even spy stash and other harder missions without any greater problems. Your Minmatar and i dont think that the SB Bonus has the same efectivenes as resistances has. Maybe you try to fit 2-3 racial hardeners. How about:
HIGH-SLOTS : ~~~~~~~~~~~~ - [ 200 | 19] 650mm Medium 'Scout' Artillery I [23xPhased Plasma M] - [ 200 | 19] 650mm Medium 'Scout' Artillery I [23xPhased Plasma M] - [ 200 | 19] 650mm Medium 'Scout' Artillery I [23xPhased Plasma M] - [ 200 | 19] 650mm Medium 'Scout' Artillery I [23xPhased Plasma M] - [ 200 | 19] 650mm Medium 'Scout' Artillery I [23xPhased Plasma M] MED-SLOTS : ~~~~~~~~~~~~ - [ 13 | 58] Medium Shield Booster II - [ 0 | 50] Shield Boost Amplifier I - [ 0 | 40] Ballistic Deflection Field I - [ 0 | 40] Heat Dissipation Field I - [ 0 | 32] 'Anointed' I EM Ward Reinforcement - [ 100 | 36] Advanced 'Limos' Heavy Missile Bay I [33xHavoc Heavy Missile]
LOW-SLOTS : ~~~~~~~~~~~~ - [ 0 | 16] Power Diagnostic System I - [ 0 | 16] Power Diagnostic System I - [ 0 | 16] Power Diagnostic System I - [ 0 | 16] Power Diagnostic System I
DRONE BAY : ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ - Vespa I (Medium Scout Drone) - Vespa I (Medium Scout Drone) - Vespa I (Medium Scout Drone) - Hornet I (Light Scout Drone) - Hornet I (Light Scout Drone
Shield EM : 50.0 % Shield Explo : 60.0 % Shield Kinetic : 70.0 % Shield Thermal : 60.0 %
==> 141.8 DPS <== You can hold the hardeners and shield boosters more then 300 seconds with this fitting which should be more then enough to decrease the incoming damage by killing the npcs. However, i cant fly a cyclone so i just modified my ferox fitting and downgraded it to some tech 1 fitting.

I dont think missions have got harder, perhaps you are out of practice?
I also think whatever setup you have needs tweaking. Level 3's in a bc with your skillpoints should be a breeze (with one or two notable exceptions)
Post your ship and fittings and let someone help you with an improved setup and flying tactics for it.

sorry, missons are a bit harder now yes.
nooone wants easy missions, except people that cant use their brains.
id rather have to think how i can win a certain misson, than just line things us and shoot them, man that would be ohh so boring, pointless, and kinda pathetic.
if you cant hack it, go back to level 2 missons until you learn how to play , or, get a buddy to do it with you.

what curse set up are you using for lv3s? using missiles in the highs? or drones for damage
The problem i had with lv4s was the seemingly random full stage aggro, with or without drones some missions just full agrro's
gonna run lv4's with a m8 and lv3's solo i think

Use it, love it. This site can save your ship. It can also help make sure you don't skip out on the good loot.

Hmm .. I don't think they are much harder, although there are still one or two which are much harder than ones. A tank of correct active hardeners + MARII + battlecruiser skill IV + enough cap chargers should be good enough for 90% of them. Make sure you have Drones V + some drone interfacing.

Give it some time, and I think you'll get used to it. You might even find them more interesting than they were. * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

They haven't got much harder.
I am afraid you'll have to adapt, mainly fit the correct hardeners and stabs if required.
It's mainly to stop people with cookie cutter setups, blasting through missions.

Both, really.
High Med nos II 3 heavy launchers (limos, atm, just what I had sitting around) small tractor beam (to speed collecting the cans) Mid 10mn AB II X5 web 4 eutectic cap rechargers Low 2 med rep II 2 active hardeners, as appropriate to the mission
I'm not a huge fan of missions, so I like to get them over with quickly. This setup is optimized to be able to complete missions quickly - it's a heavy enough tank to handle anything in any of the level 3 missions, does only the damage types that the mission rats are vulnerable to, and it's fast enough to clean up the cans in a hurry (especially with the tractor beam). On the average, I'll get a kill mission done in about 15 minutes, from undocking to redocking, with this setup.
The Vengeance is more challenging and fun. Likewise, my old blaster Brutix had a certain "lookit that damage!" fun to it, as well. The Curse is just raw efficiency.

I started using a Maller for L3 missions, Domi, prophecy, brutix, retribution, all of them got boring I've run so many in pursuit of my Comet.
I'm still not bored enough to try Downing the Slavers 2/2 or Mordu's with the maller....
But all in good time. ---------- My sig is boring. |

If they are too hard then you are too weak. Try agents with one level less maybe, till you feel strong enough to continue with your current agent. And don't bother abuot that 4m sp, it depends where you have them. You can have 10m sp, if they are in non-combat related areas you still can't do lvl 3s. Dont be so hard to yourself, missions are not good anymore anyways, because too many people do missions, drop the price of loyalty points and causing alot of lags around missionrunner hubs.

after doing lv3's in a curse,
The only problem i find is the low hull HP, its very scary knowing you have around 1000 (unresisted) Hull HP, a damage control would make me more comfortable but take aware from the armour tank
Most of the missions are tanked with a single med repper, which can run non stop without the nos. I use the other repper in bursts.
Few more missile SP and it will defo chase through all the lv 3's

I've been doing missions in my brutix for quite a while. While I do think some missions started doing more damage they are by far doable. my setup has been changing as i learn better skills, but here is the gist of my current setup Highs rails/nos/tractor <yes im lazy> Med AB/caprechargers/web Low 1 T2 repper/ active hardeners
get me out of most missions well.
previous set ups used cap boosters and 2 T2 reppers. But found that to be significantly inefficient

Missions used to be much easier, yes. However, they're all still soloable provided you know what you're doing.
First of all, if you're only running level 3s, might I suggest just using a BS to make it easy?
The real trick comes with learning how to solo Level 4 missions. The easy way, of course, is just to use a Raven. However, since you're Gallente, you can also use a Mega or Domi provided you know how to fit them properly. Remember, the most important equipment for your mission running ship is your tank. Weapons and such come afterwards. T2 tanking gear makes everything so much easier, so train for it if you can afford the time. If you really want to know a few good setups, feel free to mail me in game and I'll send you a few ideas (just tell me what you can fly).
----------------------------------------------------------- The winners of EVE have spoken.
Let's all quit GoonSwarm and go to Empire while we still have some ISK left. |
