Hi All,
I just started playing EVE and like what I see very much. Unfortunately the manual is somewhat lacking in detail. I once heard a reviewer writing of another game say that if he fed his dog a bag of scrabble chips it could have crapped a better manual...that came to mind when reading the EVE manual.
Anyway, I am curious about all the seemingly potential careers one might pursue in this game. I realize that this is largely a matetr of personal preference but I don't want to invest time in something that really doesn't have much call in the EVE universe. Obviously Privateer is good to go as is miner and trader. What about things like scientist or mechanic or researcher or whatever? Can anyone boil down the useful options available for a player to pursue?
Thanks!

1) Mine Its quick, easy and instantly profitable but is very dull 2) Hunt Isk is harder to get but there is always a chance of getting some good drop items 3) Trade VERY hard but can yield good profits if you find a route
It's a case of each to their own. It's fairly easy to train weapon skills so hunting is stable whereas Mining will require investment in just a few specialised skills. As for Research/Science these will require investing in BP's (not cheap) and you will need minerals for production so this is best pursued within a player corp. -------- To live your life, only once, and in your own sweet time. What more can you ask?

Start with your agents. Whatever you're doing, having agents from dozens of corps scattered across the galaxy can prove really useful.
And, the agent missions themselves introduce you to most aspects of EVE (except PvP), so they'll be a good learning tool.

Come check out our corp, we're friendly and do a little bit of everything, even if you don't join, the guys are knowlegable and we have a good time. We could probably help with your interests.
Check out channel "Drats" in game ------------------------------------------------ Place the mission first, never accept defeat, never quit and never leave a fallen comrade behind. |

researcher/scientist is not a viable profession at the time being because there isnt enought stuff to research. once more science skills are put in game, then yeah, making implants, evil clones and stuff...gonna be pretty darn awesome!

Hi,
The only thing i found when creating a character (as i deleted my first two), is to use the 'custom' option when selecting your career. This way you can pick and choose the different skills that are more revelent to the current game.
The only problem with that is you need to play it before you can work that out for yourself. As training your character is essential to progressing, and "most" skills main or seccondary attributes is either memory or intelligence. It helps giving your character high scores here to start with, so as you play the game you can quickly train the skills you require, as you decide on your choosen career path.
Also read the sticky guide about skills, top guide.
