Okay in the torp description its stated that torps have no guidance system ... and yet they have no problem hitting a frig orbiting you at 400m/s ...
So why dont you make some real torps... dumb giant warheads you launch into space which blows near the target(s) and causes damage like smartbombs...? That would be pretty neato... You want to solve the issue of fleetcombat where ships are in close cropped groups... they would be a nice answer... I dont remember I dont recall I dont have memory of anything at all! |

yeah, AoE weapons have been discussed a lot, it was a problem in high sec since you couldn't use them. And they only hit frigs for what, 5 damage?

Well they should be powerful and dangerous to use in Empire... they should have their own launcher type. Not like the ones two years ago! I dont remember I dont recall I dont have memory of anything at all! |

I would LOVE to see a weapon like this in general, something that just fires straight forward into whichever direction your ship is facing so you aim it by aligning...

Then you would never, ever hit anything with them, unless you fired at point-blank range.

And then the splash would hit you too.
Personally, if they ever created a weapon like this, I would have a blast getting an intercepter, and getting right in front of him, 1 KM away, and trying to stay there. With the Inties small sig it could kill a Raven without ever firing a shot. Let the Raven kill itself with it's splash damage.

I don't think it would be impossible to hit something with them, they would datonate as soon as something comes within a 1-2km radius of the warhead, and if you just lob like 50 of those in the direction of a blob there will be pain...

Torps used to explode like this. It resulted in massive amounts of concordokkens in empire, thus was taken out. Ahh the days when you could take out a whole group of tightly clustered frigs with a spread of torps.

I LOVE this idea.
Perhaps some tracking... but easily avoidable by smaller ships who are paying attention (which they never are)
Just about insta pops frigs not paying attention and does about 500 damage within 3k.
Slow, and easy to avoid, but very painful if used right (which would be hard to do)

Right. Then I guess smartbombs need to be removed from the game stat.
Just because you can't use it in high-sec does mean a weapon is fundamentally flawed.

Smart bombs might as well be removed... as it is they are very, very rarely used even in 0.0.

But still useful against interceptor gangs :)

Smartbombs are not useful because ship movement in Eve is entirely too slow compared to the rate at which ships die and the range of weapons. It's just not like a smartbomb-ship would ever manage to fly into an enemy blob without being either nuked first or the enemies warping off...
