How about if a skill completes and it is not at level 5 then after a pause of a minute or so it then goes on to train the next level of that skill.
If it hits level 5 then it goes to train the top skill in the character list and so on down while your account is still active ?
That way people will scream less if EVE is down for some unscheduled reason when their skill finishes. ( coz even if you train a long skill it's got to end sometime )
=================================
Or alternatively the unused points accumulated between the last training completion and you logging back on could be allocated to the skill you next select and so on until they are all used up ?
And you only accumulate points while your account is active, perhaps up to some preset level like 24hrs worth ?
That would cover protracted downtimes when there are technical issues etc whilst not allowing people to char farm for months at a time. =================================
My suggestions for the day.

I can maybe see the second scenario, but the first would just have people start training, come back in a couple months, buy a bunch of books and start training one again and then log back in in another few months. -------------------------------------- http://digitalsdomain.spaces.live.com/ <--- Check it out.

I mean, it's already a nice gift that the training for the current level continues, if you don't pay. But that could be checked / calculated back once you come online again for the first time after a break.
b) I prefer the dual learning idea I think. Like you are allowed to set two skills e.g. one short and one long and if the short is completed, it continues with the long.
I don't like setting alarm clocks ... and I don't do it, I rather lose two days skill training than hurrying into eve to manage the skills of my 3-4 chars perfectly.
Having a break from EVE until my broadband connection is working again. |

Skill queueing is on the drawing board.
