reading the recent patch notes from crucible has gotten me interested into building a Blaster PVP boat.
obviously Gallente is the best choice for a base ****. my thoughts were either a Thorax or a Brutix, but if there is a better ship for it please suggest it.
as far as skills go, i have some points in hybrid guns (being a caldari will do that). and i can fly both aforementioned ships. as such i am looking for a medium skill fit, im no noob but i am not specialized into blasters either.
also as this is my first foray into PVP a few tactics for blasters would be helpful
thanks in advance for any help

Ferox is now quite good, not enough yet but it's very nice, much better tank than brutix better dmg distance engagement/application but if you want something to gank in belts, pick brutix put guns on it, full lows dmg mods and that's it.
Has you can see it's not hard to fit.
Pve? - forget?

-Kane Don't. These things are bad. Depending on your targets and dronebay size, put a flight of warriors, hornets (for those pesky minmatar AFs), or hobgoblins in there, or go for a flight of Hammerheads/Valks if you expect to combat cruiser sized ships only.
Something like a Thorax is a good blaster ship indeed! For maximum gank you could fit a Large Shield Extender II in one of the mids, and fill the low slots with damage mods, tracking enhancers and a damage control. For the rigs I like the nano-rigs, but shield extenders are obviously a good choice too! It's also possible to change the rax into a don't-have-skills ship, by overtanking the lows with a 1600mm and a 800mm plate, damage control and resistance mods and with small neutron blasters in the high slots.
*edit: Since the thorax is a T1 ship and gets full insurance, you could also load it up with T1-only mods. This way you won't do 600 DPS, but you also won't lose 15mil ISK on modules. |

I would also strongly recommend 5 medium ECM drones for either the Thorax or Brutix. It's the only GTFO for a blaster boat in scram range (well, aside from neuts or a moronic opponent).
It's the only vaguely reliable GTFO method, put it that way. I've got out of a fair few fights that way, along with being on the receiving end of ECM drones and missing out several kills.
It will almost always prevent you from being killed by smaller targets in a Thorax or Brutix, the chances of not getting a jam cycle off on a frig or cruiser in the time it will take you to go down is remote. Don't ask me for the exact probability, it's 22:16pm on a Friday :D

Ecm drones are far more useful than just for gtfo, using them right off the rip can negate some incoming dps quite well. |
