Hi! What is the deal with some sell orders being only 1 isk, or even 0.01isk higher than a buy order? I understand that this makes a difference if the number of traded item is very high, when someone sells ore and minerals, but it's not the case here. There was a buy order for a listed item at 2 540 010 isk, why would someone create a sell order for two pieces of said item at the price of 2 540 011 isk? The next sell order was much higher, 2 750 000 isk. What am I missing here?

This usually means the person in question also owns the top buy order. By putting up a sell order that is 0.01 isk higher, you can sometimes "trick" other sellers into undercutting you and selling to your buy order (because if you edit your sell order to be at or below the buy order price it will sell immediately to the top buy order). When people have large numbers of sell orders they aren't always very careful when updating them. This way you can make them sell at a much lower price than they meant to, and you get a bunch of stock at the buy order price without having to wait around.

It's also possible that it's because there was a buy order for 2540011 ISK and someone sold to it, but they had more items than the buy order wanted. If that happens, the remaining items (the ones in excess of the buy order's requirements) goes on the market as a sell order at the price that the buy order was for. |

In a busy market like Jita, it is not unusual for arbitrage opportunities to exist in the station - even allowing for trading frictions like brokerage and taxes. The buy sell spread tends to be quite narrow in Jita and people don't always check the buy orders when adjusting their sell order prices and vice-versa. It is also common between stations and some people make their living buying low in one station and selling high in another. |

In my limited experience, it also may happen where someone has spotted that the reprocessing value exceeds the buy price and is trying to corner the market.

One thing I often do is post a buy order I want filled then a sell order 0,01 isk higher for 1 of the item in a dangerous low sec station.
People often undercut me but don't often buy the lowsec item.

Note that the highest available buy order is used, and the lowest available sell order.
If someone doesn't pay attention, and clicks on an order that is NOT available at their current location, they can end-up losing a lot of ISK to 1 ISK orders. |

Also remember not all pricing is done by human players.
Putting up a sell order 0.01 higher than your buy may cause a macro trade bot to try and undercut your sell and sell to your buy. |
