EVE Online: Incursion 1.4 was deployed to Tranquility during downtime this Wednesday, April 6, 2011. A full list of patch notes is available here and new additions have been added in green text. To assist our Mac users we will provide a detailed listing of Mac patch notes and known issues along with useful advice on how to use the mac repair tool and a guide on reporting issues.
Patch notes for 1.4 (deployed April 6th)
- Updated the icons for client and patches.
- If you notice any new issues cropping up (or want to bring an existing issue to our attention) please take a look at the general issues thread before posting your issue here.
- Fixed an issue on the MAC where switching between fullscreen- and windowed mode (without changing resolution) wasn't having any effect
Known issues for 1.4
- Various crash issues; please contact customer support for help in resolving these. Some users have reported that clearing the client cache resolves this issue for them, please note that any direct editing of preference files is never recommended.
- AA cannot be turned on if you also have depth effects enabled, this is something we are looking into. Not sure when or if we will be able to support both in parallel.
- Command key no longer works for shortcuts, it still works for copy and paste etc.
Other useful info
- Shortcuts have been changed, for an example the quit client shortcut is now: ALT+SHIFT+Q
- Editing prefs files to start the client in windowed mode no longer works as it used to, please note that you can now change these settings via the ESC menu.
- If you run into any issues try running the repair tool first:
1. Download the Mac repair tool from here. The repair tool will be packaged as a .tgz file 2. Double click the file to extract 3. Double click on the extracted file 'EVE Online Repair.app' 4. When prompted, select the EVE Online client you use to connect to Tranquility and click open 5. The repair tool will auto start and when it displays the text 'complete', press close 6. Run your EVE client as normal
Please use this format for reporting any issues in this thread:
- Description of problem, the more verbal the better
- Hardware info (Mac model, GPU, CPU, RAM etc.)
- OS version
- Step by step guide to what causes the issue
- Step by step guide to any workaround that has resolved the issue for you

Follow up to: http://www.eveonline.com...ID=1493353&page=2#33 on old forums.
Tried downloading full update from curl -O http://cdn1.eveonline.co...um_005889_246918-mac.dmg . Used another Mac on same LAN (behind NAT).
Same behaviour as before. First 300Mb or so comes down nice and fast, and then it slows right down (from ~1500k/s to sub-200k/s). Only seem to see this when downloading from CCP.
Note that when I *resume* a download, I don't get another burst. It picks back up at the slow speed. |

Eve Online Incursion latest patch installs fine on the MAC, but then the game won't load, just a black screen. Even if you repair the client, the game still won't load up. Why is it always the Mac clients that are knackered by CCp's patches. i wonder if the CCp offices evn have an apple mac to test the bloody stuff on. CCP, if you have trouble with running this application on an apple mac, then say so. Why allow players to fork out the money when patches clearly screw up.
Please get this thing sorted. Its always annoying when you know that in order to install a patch it will inevitabl;y end up with having to download the whole client and start again.
Would be interested to know how often the apple mac is used to test patches. on the last several, i would hazard a gues as to NOT AT ALL!!!

I agree - they say they have a whole team of apple players testing - but I think they test it with their eyes closed and mac shutdown. |

Lots of things wrong with the Mac client after patch:
1) Update could not be completed multiple times. Got stuck on the patch extracting. Once during the patch extraction process it ate up all of my free disk space (about 6GB).
As I was unable to complete the update normaly used the repair tool and eventualy got the patch to be applied. After that didnt have the chance to login untill today after the 1.4.1 was relised.
2) When trying to Log in (with 1.4.1) was unable to type in the password, because when I clicked in the PW field and try to type got a pop-up window with 'You do not apear to be in a fleet!' message. This was ofcourse true as I was (or should I say - am) unable to log in, or even enter or copy a single character of my PW.
3) Tried clearing all the caches and reseting all settings in order to try to remedy the above issue. Now after launching the client I get a blank EULA pop-up window that says I have to scroll to the bottom, but there is nothing to scroll so I cant do that and there fore cant get to the login screen.
Thats where Im stuck now. Unable to login and with empty skill queue as a result. :(( FIX THIS FAST CCP (or fix it eventualy and reimbuse me the SP for the time I am unable to login)!!
P.S. I would also like to suggest that you test every patch not only the major ones.

I command-tab out of Eve after patching, as I have several times today. But this time when I alt tab back in Eve stalls with the screen 100% black, except for the Eve mouse pointer which I can move. Command-tabbing again to get out did not work. Eve was unresponsive, other than moving the mouse pointer around a black screen. I was forced to force-quit out of Eve. *sigh* I really wish Eve for Mac could be run for longer than an hour without seriously bugging out somehow, or a crash to desktop.

In fairness to CCP, I don't think there's a global issue with Macs and patches. For example, I've never had a patch fail, although for the first few I would have a screen lock-up the first time I logged in after patching.
So I don't think it's a case of not testing at all. That said, the combo of Eve + Cider is seems to break more easily than it should.
Note: I've seen a few different varieties of an issue where the Eve client is causing the interface to become unresponsive, but won't go away. If you have a second computer, there's a 100% reliable way of solving this. It's a bit technical, but it works.
(1) Make sure that 'remote login' is enabled on your Eve Mac. Do this before running Eve. As long as you have a half-decent password, it's safe to leave this enabled all the time.
(2) In the 'sharing' preferences, give your machine a name that you will remember.
(3) Find out your "short" user name. To do this: - open Terminal, from the Utilities folder in your Applications folder (Applications - Utilities - Terminal). - a prompt (usually % or #) will appear. Type "whoami" and press return. Remember this name.
(4) When Eve crashes, use 'ssh' to reconnect to it. From another Mac: - open Terminal, from the Utilities folder in your Applications folder (Applications - Utilities - Terminal). - a prompt (usually % or #) will appear. Type 'ssh "<your user name>@<your computer>.local"'. Example 'ssh "[email protected]"'. - It will probably warn you that the machine is unknown (this is OK; say 'yes'), and then ask you for your password.
(5) Type the command "ps -Ajw | fgrep -i cider" and press return. Case matters, and that's a veritcal bar (usually far right of keyboard, above the 'return' key) between the two sets of words. You should see something like:
<user name> 13985 1 13979 85104b8 0 R ?? 0:37.73 /Applications/Games/EVE Online.app/Contents/MacOS/cider -cmdline "C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE\bin\ExeFile.exe" /nosplash /noconsole C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE\bin\ExeFile.exe
(6) Take note of the first number after your user name (I've highlighted it above). Type the command "kill 13985" (replace 13985 with your whatever number came from above). This should stop the Eve client and make your Mac run OK again. |

My lady's Mac was running it ok, though it was jittery (frame rate would slow and then freeze sometimes). That was yesterday, but tonight it just gives us the black screen of death (it was working prior to this for character creation/remodling, though slow as molasses). Tried to download the repair tool and the page loads but it's blank (on both her Mac and my PC), so that doesn't help us right now. We did clear the cash, but this didn't seem to help.
Edit: as I was writing this, the client started working again (after 3-4 hard reboots of the computer). But her new portrait isn't showing up correct on the front page, though it is showing up correctly under the guest tab in the station.
But now the damn thing is stuttering and she's having frame rate drops again as she's flying to the gate, even to the point of freezing for 5 seconds or so before going back to normal frame rate again. It's bad enough that we're going to call it a night and try again tomorrow.
iMac OSX v10.6.6 2.4ghz Intel Core 2 Duo 1 gig 667mhz DDR2 SDRAM
Edit: video card is ATI Radeon HD2600 |

You didn't list what graphics card the iMac has.
1GB of RAM is really pushing it these days, even on a Mac. Advise you upgrade to 2GB ASAP. 1GBGǪ"That was so five years ago."
You also didn't mention if you had tried turning down the graphics effects at all. That would have a significant impact on performance. I would hazard a guess that the new Shader Model 3.0 is putting more stress on the system at the same graphics levels.
FEEDBACK: Limiting saved fittings to 50 is dumb. It's even more dumb that the Move Fittings To Server window won't actually move selected fittings to the server, or allow me to access any saved fittings at all. It's also dumb that the fittings that are supposedly saved to the hard drive in the game files cannot be found or accessed except by the old fitting manager. It's also dumb that the import/export fitting feature never worked before this patch either, so I legitimately have absolutely no access to or backups of my old fittings.
Supremely dumb: Not having any of this available to test on SISI first before dumping it on the player base like the eruption of Eyjafjallaj+¦kull. And we all know how much that screwed up people's flight plans. Now my plans for a roam this weekend are out the window without access to my fittings. |

You're right, I forgot the card...I'm not sure what kind of card is in it. I'll have to boot it up in a bit and see if I can figure it out. And yeah, 1gb is paltry, especially at that speed, but I don't really want to upgrade this 4 year old machine as I plan on getting another real gaming machine (a PC) for her soon.
The graphics settings are set to the quality preset, as they were before the patch. We'll turn them down and see if that helps, but it would really suck to have to go backwards on the graphics settings....why would the new patch require that? |

New character creator:
Texture quality "High" prevents character from rendering correctly or at all in body modification part. Old CC part works fine on High quality.
2010 iMac 27" 2,8 GHz Core i7 4GB RAM ATI Radeon HD 4850 OS X 10.6.7
Setting Texture quality to Medium resolves the rendering issue on this hardware at least.

Finally was able to get the Eve Repair Tool downloaded. Running it now...
Edit: Ok, ran the tool and now I can load the client again! Yay! Her new character portrait still isn't showing on the main page (shows her old one), but it is showing on the character sheet in game and in the local window in the station. Funny thing is, when you pull up the character sheet and click on the picture to zoom, the one that pulls up is the old picture even though it was the new picture I clicked on.
I turned down some of the graphics settings, so we'll see in a bit how she runs.
Edit: (not that anyone is reading this thread...) It now is working fairly good, though it's still dropping frame rate occasionally, it no longer freezes entirely. So it's playable, but the Mac version really needs some work! |
