Ok Im using a setup for a purpose where I actually find this module, noone in game has been able to give me any straight answers about how this is actually working.
This is how I use it. I click it on my module icons then select the ship in space I wanna target. So it starts targeting and I get a lock. Everything is fine atleast for large targets. For smaller targets wich have a lock time longer then 5sec it just seems to deactive and stop locking.
How is this module supposed to work? And I cant figure out anyway to lock smaller targets with this thing on at the same time.

Activate the module then target something.
For targets which have a targeting time longer than that of the module's activation time, you'll need to set the module to autorepeat.

Tnx, turned out it was a slight graphic bugg that stopped the targetting graphic after the modules timer ran out. or it might have been lagg causing a delay.
Tnx for reply.

i have two questions about the passive targeting systems, the first being already discussed a bit here:
1) does it still work, if you have it on "manual" and your targeting time is longer than its cycle time? i think yes.
2) is there ANY way to target something passively, when you already have a target locked?

Edited by: General Coochie on 16/10/2006 19:52:03 It seems to me that autorepeat has no affect on this module. But as the targeting graphic is bugged maybe so is the autorepeat function. So better leave it on autorepeat I guess if you are locking for more then 5sec. Also it only drain 5 cap every 5 sec so I dont think it will hurt you to have it on autorepeat.
So once you locked and used the passive targeter theres no way you target will ever know you are targeting him? Untill you use another module ofc, I asume cargo scanners and similar "non hostile" modules can be used without alerting the targeted ship.
and with 2) do you mean that you can make your "target info" disappear from the targeted ship? I dont know
I probably need to try this out with a friend to fully understand its uses.

You can indeed use cargo scanners, module scanners, ... without your target even knowing he was scanned. Offcourse, those scanners do make a noise which he can pick up but if there are other ships around, he might think another ship got scanned.
If you activate an aggressive module (gun, missile, ecm, scrambler, ...) then your target will see the red flashing brackets around your ship icon but he still won't autotarget back. As soon as you stop using aggressive modules, the red brackets disappear. This is very nice when firing cruise missiles from a long distance, if you deactivate the missile launcher after the first volley, the red brackets disappear when your launcher deactivates but the missiles will still continue and hit. If your target wasn't paying attention, he'll get hit by the cruise missiles and he won't even see anyone locking him.

thanks for a very informative post, verbatim.
still one question for me: assume you have one target locked, be it passively or not. can you lock ANOTHER one PASSIVELY without loosing the first lock you got? i think no, because you need to activate the module before targeting.
but when you got something locked, everything you activate gets applied on your lock. ----- I don't care if you hate Alt-posting. I hate the behaviour of these forums. |

Yes very nice info verbatim. can you do this without having the passive targeter on autorepeat? becuase autorepeat doesnt -seem- to do anything with this module.

based on my experience a bit back you can only passively target 1 ship , sequence would be as described, click then lock. problem becomes when you have more than 1 target to lock because , if you click... it goes to the active target.
if you target, you cant passively target.
i hope that helps. BUT if someone has a different way - that be awesome
