this was a year ago saying about 20k concurent users, 12 months on we have 31,000 concurrent users. So in the next 12 months we can expect 40k concurrent users is this a fair projection?
if so im worried for the future of the game. this is not a lag whine. but maybee its time to stop new users from joining. or the game may even keep new players from joining atm. your views. omg |

Wait until WoW's expansion comes out. There are some people taking a break from that game until it comes out, so that might account for the extra population. I know my game time here will take a hit once the WoW expansion comes out.

Actually i think that number will be reached even sooner, cuz the step from 10k to 20k was a lot longer then from 20k to 30k and the step from below 10k to 10k was a long time too.
mebbe eve is the victim of it's own success.
Anyways i hate to see the servers sharded but if thats what it takes to keep eve going then i might be able to live with that. Banner will be updated shortly |

From what I've been seeing the clusters and networks can barley support the current player base.

Ignorance is not bliss.
Read the dev blogs. A new ramsan is on the way, as are 30 more server blades.
Nearly doubling the number of nodes we currently have.
Which should go a VERY long way to fixing the current state of things. ___________________________________________ The deeper you stick it in your vein, the deeper the thoughts there's no more pain. ___________________________________________

Yah, the server cluster currently has 140 nodes (70 dual-processor servers), and will be upgrading to 100 servers with 200 processors (holy jeebus!). I don't know if that number is supposed to include the proxies and the DB, but still, that is a lot of computers.
And add in another RamSan, which brings it to, what? 2, 3 now. You know those things cost $300,000 each. So be nice to the server.

The server can and will be expanded to handle EVE's ever increasing load, and Kali as well as future updates will expand the content and geographical room to account for eve's ever widening player base.
As long as we're paying to play and those new players are also paying to play, EVE can continue to afford to expand on itself.

in my opinien, it's not the server hardware that limits it... that's just upgrade it again...etc.
it's more the EVE world that in my opinien is too small for so many... the present EVE-world with 40k+ subs will make EVE into a space version of New York way to crawded ! thats the possible problem in my opinien.

Actually I'd say with Kali and all and the hopeful late release of WoW: Expansion it'll probably reach a bit higher...

40k is a bit conservative u will see 50000 online within 3-6 months i reckon - kali if done right will be hyped and attract more players and more ISK farmers as well but we wont go into that - server loads will handle it but perhaps upgrading minimum requirements to 128k bandwidth might help reduce client side lag.
