I guess as long as it isnt a possible extinction issue then it shouldn't matter too much as long as its for consumer needs and not for sport. -------------------------------------- http://digitalsdomain.spaces.live.com/ <--- Check it out.

From where I sit, so long as these creatures are endangered, we have no business hunting them. And until they are as common as domestic cattle and the various whale species populations can be sustained, this is the stance I shall maintain.
I do believe these creatures are intelligent but a moratorium based on that alone would not fly with me.
Iceland, Japan and Norway had better be prepared for a drop in their tourism, among other things. There have been calls on the BBC's Have Your Say (regarding whaling) to boycott products originating from these countries and refrain from traveling to them on holiday.

It's better than the ppl who go after shark fins.
Catch a shark, cut off the fins, throw it back in the water alive with no fins...
I'm a firm believer animals are to be harvested by humans for sustenance and other needs, as long as we use what we take wisely...
I bowhunt deer for sport, very challenging. However, I also eat the meat, or give it away free to families that need it...

Iceland relies on fishing and the American military. One is dwindling the other is leaving. What goes around comes around. Icelanders are already an endangered species.

So, I've got this idea to hunt Humans. Aye it'll work good. They are overpopulated, they are useless buggers, and make good eating in some parts of the world I hear.
What? These are the same arguments people use to hunt. Mind if I kill you for commercial needs? I hear organ donors are in high demand. Bodies are needed for medical research too. Your just an animal after all, you live, breed, die. So I can hunt you too.

So japan hunt Whales, canada do allso, foroyar do as same, Norway does allso, but when Iceland start to kill them and do give out huntin pass for 9 YES 9 of those the world get mad ?
Maby some of those stupid americans that pay 700$ per 10 years of "ownin your own whale and get hes travel infos" should look closer in theyr own buysness, lest say homelss and poor ppl instead of usin 700$ for a 10 years contract to know what some damn whale is doin arround Iceland.
Do some of you know the fact that there are aprox 29-30k of those arround Iceland in the sea ?
Do some of you be willin to pay 13$ for pound of good fish because price goes up endless while those animals eat more on daily bases than the whole Icelandic shipfleet gets in 1 month ?
Do some of you actualy have any idea what your sayin about this ?
Killin 0.002% of some, just any kind of animal that has the count of 30k does not effect them in anyway, it does not ewen count.
Do some of you or some newspaper in those damn countrys like Britain tell any fact of that Icelanders are huntin 9 YES NINE of those for 1 year, thats the whole situation as i see it.
For my point of wiev i have more worries about those 20-30 americans/british thats killed in Irak ewery day instead of some 9 whales, but thats just me

Is it fishy since they eat from the same enviroment or is it more beef like since they're mammals?
I'd eat some but I don't think you can get whale meat even if your country didn't kill the whale. Freedom my ass.

Can anyone explain to me why killing whales is so inheridently evil? I mean, why the hell is it "wrong" to kill a whale (a large, sea-dwelling mammal) for food, but it's a-ok to kill a cow (a large, land-dwelling mammal) for food? WHAT THE HELL IS THE BIG DEAL?
And no, they aren't endangered. The whale species being hunted here is not even remotely endangered, and is in fact quite common. Also, it's 9 bloody animals. It's nost like we're launching a genocydal whale-hunting campaign wherein we gleefully slaughter whales for the hell of it. We're killing 9 of them. 9. If, like that article states, there's 43,600 of the damn things in our sovereign waters, that means we're killing 0.0002% of the whales we could be killing. Not exactly driving the bastards to extinction, are we? The only reason hunting whales is bashed so much is because it's the trendy thing to do. Whales are no more important animals than cows, sheep, pigs, chickens, or any of the multitute of animals humanity eats.
Norway hunts whales, noone cares. The Faraoese hunt whales, noone cares. Canada even hunts a bit of whale, noone cares. But when Iceland does it, the world goes "OMGWTFBBQ Y 4 R U HUNTING TEH WHALEEZ? U SUX KTHX!"

I read the other day that Paul Watson (I think he is the founder of Sea Shepard organization) described Iceland as the North Korea of international whaling or something like that.
Beware the dictatorial state of Iceland who will stop at nothing when it comes to killing of the whales of the sea.... we will not rest until these big oafish creatures of the ocean are gone for good...

Actually On the subject of Paul Watson.
America you rock our world !!!! Paul Watson is actuall a Terrorist by icelandic court laws. So every one that gives money to his orginzion is supporting a Terrorist orginization so thank you america for you tough stance on Terrorism.
Btw with the new law the icelandic goverment can check on the bank accounts and then the american government needs to make a offical invistagation into it.

Whales are no more important animals than cows, sheep, pigs, chickens, or any of the multitute of animals humanity eats.
For one we breed cowssheep, pigs, chickens, or any of the multitute of animals humanity eats; we dont breed whales. Is it all human and such, no, but we as spieces are what we are and need meat with our veggies. However if we maintain the environment and satisfy our needs through breeding what we need then there is no need to kill that what we dont need.
Secondly whales are a highly intelligent spieces that we have hardly any understanding off. As per human laws killing a intelligent spieces a.k.a. fellow human qualifies as murder, how would killing an intelligent out of space visitor qualify or an intelligent earth resident? Intelligence is not defined by the use of tools btw but by the ability to communicate and the level of that communication.
Thirdly not driving them to extinction??? WTF do you even know what you are talking about? Do you know how long it takes before that one whale that is killed is replaced? Do you know the number of animals left endagered qualifies as? Some whale spieces have recovered somewhat from the slaughter laid upon them by our ancestors, others have not and others have become extinct. Hip hip ******* worth it for one meal isnt it.
The fishing industry in general is problematic, but whaling is just stupid, there is not a single reason to do it.

Correction, you don't seem to care. I for one do. I don't visit any of those countries (including Japan which you seem to forget about) or even buy their products because of it and yes this news tempts me into canceling my EvE account. CCP should make a stance about it showing Iceland that are a lot of ways of making a living and money and even far more profitable then destroying that what can't be restored. ----------------------------------------------- The BIG Lottery |

I am a american, yankee, eTC...
I must say if iceland wants to hunt whales it is fine. They are doing so in a educated manner that will not risk any species of whale as a whole. The IWC has contionued to harbor the old view that whaleing must be stopped which in the 80's when it was stopped was a needed measure.
As for watson he has sunk ships spiked trees and otherwise put human lives at risk for what is in essence a dumb animal. He should be shot.
