Last week, I logged in shortly after downtime and saw that a courier contract I had put up earlier was still lying unfulfilled. Being the impatient pup that I was, I decided to haul the goods myself in a T1 industrial. All 1b ISK worth of goods. Since downtime only ended recently, the online population was "only" 5,000 so I figured the chances of avoiding a suicide-gank were good.
How wrong I was. Four jumps out of Jita, I suddenly found myself floating in a pod, 1b poorer. That 1b represented over half of my assets and I naturally asked myself the question every victim of a suicide-gank asks himself - "Should I continue playing this game?"
I exited, swore to myself to never play EVE again, opened up LOTRO and began the PVE grind in Middle Earth. After five minutes, I realised that accomplishments in games like WoW and LOTRO don't really mean anything. Since death is "risk-free" in these games, all accomplishments do is signify the time you spent in these games.
Not so in EVE. While accomplishments in EVE do require time as well, they also demand SKILL and INTELLIGENCE. If you lack the latter, this game will brutally punish you. Thus accomplishments in EVE are far more meaningful than in games like WoW or LOTRO. A mistake in WoW will only cost you inconvenience and a tiny bit of gold to repair your equipment. A mistake in EVE can cost everything.
It is this brutality that makes EVE so much more enticing. When you achieve something, you really achieve it. Suicide-gankers ensure there is no real safe zone in EVE. Success in EVE is earned, not given.
To all the suicide-gankers out there, thank you for making EVE an interesting place. |

Nothing to troll here. OP is valid, worth reading and the author is a better man than most.

Cool story, bro.
Really, cool story. Enjoy rebuilding, do your best to make it last. BEFORE CRUCIBLE EVE WAS ON CRUISE CONTROL. After Crucible EVE didn't need cruise control. |

I like your attitude, OP.
Still, I am wondering why things like these never happen to me, although I am often transporting goods around Jita. Do Minmatar industrials look too pathetic to be considered valid targets by suicide gankers? ...THEN WHO WAS PHOON? |

To all the suicide-gankers out there, thank you for making EVE an interesting place. I actually think this is one of the reason more people don't play EVE. Since there is no save function and everything you lose, you have to get back. I believe that when most people start off playing games, they become so used to the idea of loading from a save point or at least keeping most of your gear when you die. The scary thing of how much you can lose in this game becomes too large for some people and I think thats how carebears are created.
There is something to be said of starting small and getting used to losing cheap ships. So the lose isn't too hard to bare. I completely agree that suicide ganking adds a good amount of risk to the game. Odds are most of the time you can survive in highsec without worrying about it. But there every now and then BaM!! a little wake up call gets you and reminds you that this is EVE. You aren't safe all the time. |

Your attitude has won EVE. Today I lost my common sense, It slipped away between Amamake and Rens, I think it happened in highsec, Using a Brutix to gank a Providence. -- Flunk |

I'm gonna take a stab and guess it was Uedama?
That system is popular with suicide gankers.
Lost a bil in a Badger II loaded with POS goods when my alt was new. I raged plenty for the next hour after that. But liquidated a few assets and replaced all my losses within the next 24 hours so it wasn't that bad really
Still have the killmail linked in my browser. Some day when I am military leader of one of the major alliances, Bl00dy Phoenix will get what is coming to them *grin* |

Sure its fine, but not sure if its healthy attitude.

No troll. After I died, I realised that getting blown up and having your corpse pissed on is a part of the EVE experience. I now look at my venture in EVE as a story, complete with setbacks as well as accomplishments. It makes the game far more interesting than simply "min-maxing" in a risk-free environment, which tends to happen in conventional MMOs like WoW or LOTRO. I think that's the best approach for a sandbox MMO like EVE, particularly an MMO that permits cruelty between players. |

Contracts. Courier contracts. Contracts within contracts. You are allowed to ship stuff on behalf of your corp. You are allowed to put BPO's in a can and put the can in a courier package and then take that courier package and add a couple random junk items and make another courier package with it.
You are also allowed to use blockade runners - cloaking right after jumping and warping away is not just for null.
And finally there is the Orca corporate hangar.
Sorry to hear ebout your loss. We've all been there - more or less. 1 billion is quite a spectacular amount for a single player though. Well done? |

+1 Like. That's why I play this game. When you achieve something you've actually achieved something. It's not just a mindless ******** grind(well sometimes but you obv know what I mean). If there's no risk as in other games then there is no gain. |

Supporting Suicide Ganking is great but wouldn't it be more fun if it was actually a challenge. What if Gate guns podded players with too low a sec rating? What if pirates could sneak their brethren's pods into high sec in haulers with the risk of detection and the sudden pod pinata that would result? What if CCP actually went after botters and made Mining ships that had a chance in hell outside of massive ISK outlays for their tanks. Of course miners could work together, war dec the agressors... the list goes on.
Suicide Ganking is great but it's really the underachiever team sport of Eve. More power too them but let's not sing their praises too loudly. |
