Which one do you make more isk from?

I would say missions, there are surprisingly few good 0.0 systems and they usually have a lot of people ratting in them, the rest are only so-so (well, thats around my mains neck of the woods anyway) ... doing complexes can be lucrative but you need a gang (or have a bunch of accounts) |

Complex running and hac production are probably some of the most lucrative things to do. I ratted in a -0.9x sys for quite some time, and i have to say running mission is way more luctrative ecxept you are lucky and find couple of faction spawns:)

Level 4 missions will earn more ISK than 0.0 ratting.
However 0.0 ratting is more lucrative than running 3s and if you can get out to 0.0 without losing your ship much easier.
(At least this is my experience so far.)

If you can run missions efficiently they will earn more money.
However, it's not very hard to rat in 0.0 without very many skill points, a lot of new players complain that missions (the ones that earn more than 0.0) are too hard.

I think the occasional (VERY occasional depeding on where you are ratting) Officer spawn can make up for the apples to apples comparison.
That said, I suppose a few good offers might tip the scale in favor of the value of Lvl IV's
But a few lucky days 0.0 ratting can = spending spree.

Edited by: Nymos on 18/10/2006 10:31:27 depends on the 0.0 system and for comparison i assume a high quality lvl4 agent. most systems suck, hardly get any decent battleship spawns so a lot of 0.0 is almost bad as low-sec. so missions > bad 0.0 systems. if you have a decent system in 0.0 that spawns 1m+ battleships frequently with a good amount of belts and noone else around then ratting there can be more profitable.
i used to make isk exclusively by ratting for bounties and loot, but considering that i'm in lower syndicate now that doesn't offer good ratting at all except for maybe two spots, i gave missions a try. i spent my last isk for: a raven, gist-b large booster (250m bargain), gist-c amp (63m bargain), that was 2-3 weeks ago. pds, bcu, hardeners t2, named launchers. i used to think missions are omgwtfbbq and so hard reading the forums, but please... i tank everything without any trouble except for angel extravaganza bonus stage. with just a large booster. even though it's gist stuff, it's not out of reach for the average mission runner and my missile skills are not that great at all and i'm less than a year old.
i do missions now for isk and let my alt run one step behind me in hauler with all nanos and ab/tractor to grab my loot. i lose some bounties/mission rewards by that, but i think it's worth it. i can switch between fighting and looting. i love finding stuff, get some good named items sometimes and the rest i just reprocess with perfect refine and build ships. once they blow up i get extra isk.
i can only imagine how that was before bounties were nerfed, worlds collide nerfed and drone mission alloy drops reduced. i'm neither hippoking's alt nor some pirate that wants missions nerfed, i'm just stating my opinion which is: for no risk at all, no having to watch local or take care of logistics in 0.0 i can make real nice isk in high sec and even get a faction ship eventually. i'm not asking for a mission nerf, they're fine , it allows me to fund 0.0 easily. most people don't live in very low real-sec 0.0 with triple 1.85m spawns and commander spawns every hour and complexes are done by the same people every day at times that the average 0.0 person can't be online anyway. good 0.0 systems you need to share, bad ones you still need to get ammo and maybe check loot. and if a hostile decides to hop in a cov ops and afk in your system all day you're screwed even if cloaked, happened to me a few times. wanna keep ratting? he might just call in 5 ceptors and pwn you. they're fast enough to get you if they know where you are.
again, i'm not picking on mission runners. just comparing as asked by the OP.
edit: i have never seen an officer in 4 months of whoring 0.0 rats several hours a day and neither have my corp mates. commanders (dread guristas) i found on average once or twice a week and in most cases it was a named ballistic control or shield amp and some ammo or not even that. this was a -0.3 system with good amount of belts. one of the better systems in 0.0 and still no faction stuff left right and center hehe.

Pure cash wise, i'd say 0.0 ratting hass the edge. BUT, that doesn't take into account LP and Agent Offers. I mean, when you're being offered a +3 Implant once a day, the money starts to mount up pretty quickly........
But, on the downside, Hi-Sec mission running is exceptionally dull, so I'd pick 0.0 every time ----------------------------------------------- If you're reading this, Patch86 was too lazy to select his main.

I would say running Lv4 missions especially with a good quality agent, but I'm not sure there is much in it.

Supposing we spak of combat missions, as the other don't give decent bonus items, from my experience (most mission running) rats drops are way better, more good named items, some good faction item, while faction items are almost impossible to find in a mission. On the reverse the pure monetary reward is better in mission (high number of middle level bounties, with not so much difficulty). If you sell the loot I think rattling will give more isk overall as you have some small high quality item, while most of the loot from the mission is mostly basic tech 1 (as can be attested by the almost 50 unmelted 150 mm hybrid in my hangars).

As someone who runs lvl4's and does 0.0 ratting - the answer is easy
If you have crap 0.0 systems (-.5 to -0.01) then lvl4's are probebly betters.
If you define ratting as "pop a spawn, go to next, pop another spawn" then lvl4's and decent 0.0 ratting is the same.
If you collect loot - 0.0 is more isk by far. 4-5 hours of ratting in a 0.0 system will give you enough in minerals in just the crap loot alone to build a teir 1 bs. The Quality loot and the bounties and the occasional officer spawn will make your day. --- Slot 10 Akemons Modified 'Noble'Zet 5000 implant +8% Armour FREE |

Lvl4 missions are heavily nerfed now. 1. Rare loot from BS. And almost no named loot from BS. So better do not loot at all if you are making money. 2. LP costs almost nothing now because of low prices on implants. 80k LP is possible to exchange for 120-130kk isks if you manage to grab good offer. Otherwise you will have to exchange 240kk for 180kk isks. Being on 4 lvl means that you may miss 80k offer very-very-very easy. I think that with good skills and t2 fit you may get around 10kk per hour. Year ago it was at least 20kk per hour.

0.0 is far ahead if you're ratting for long. An average of 10 mill an hour from bounties isn't hard to manage in even -0.1. The loot doubles that in refinables and includes the occasional high value named item. The occasional faction spawn will also come your way.
Level 4 missions have very little loot, and good named items are as rare as bug-free patch days. On top of that you have a high risk of losing your ship to unfamiliar missions and the occasional mishap. 0.0 has much lower dps than your average mission and you always have the chance to warp out to safety if things get dangerous (unless you choose to engage at close range and not kill tacklers).
Don't forget to consider quality of life. Missions used to be more interesting than ratting since they had a lot more variety but a lot have been removed. Courier missions for variety are out since they're almost all broken and require you to move 1m3 or less. That's the sort of things that kills all trace of enjoyment. So consider doing both for more variety |

You speak the truth.
12 months ago - lvl4 courier mission runners were laughed at. Now - It has all changed.....
Anyone can use a GTC paid alt, and afk courier mission run with it, while they pvp/0.0rat/lvl4 with their main. And guess what - the clever courier mission runners earn enough lp's though multiple agents, that making 100mil a day and a +4 implant is not uncommon --- Slot 10 Akemons Modified 'Noble'Zet 5000 implant +8% Armour FREE |

With two accounts ? I mean, if you use another account to collect the loot and e.g. move it first to pos and later to station, then you have to count it as the income with 2 chars. If you collect all loot yourself it might cost you some time to collect it and get it to pos and station later. Btw. I've been hunting quite often in a -0.5 system in non-npc space with a single char and if I had the system for myself, it always ended with around 20 mil/hour in bounties on average after a longer session. Maybe with a lot of luck plus an implant or usable faction loot.
Curse was better, if I count the dozens of carrier spawns and few officers I've killed. 1-2 bigger hauler spawns on a ratting day (a few hours) was quit nice and that was normal for me.

TBH the income from ratting and level 4s overall is about the same. Ratting you get a chance of occasional big drops, missions you get LP that gives you regular big drops.

Having done a lot of level 4's and even more 0.0 ratting I'd have to say 0.0 is far better. It might not be that much better on the bounty side, but it is that much better from a loot side. Most loot in level 4's is crap.
Level 4's will also require much higher skills than 0.0 ratting, espcially if you don't fly a raven.
If you can be in an area thats mostly priate free and you are not a totally carebear, 0.0 is better. If you can't get a low pirate area, or don't know how to fight and how to run, stick to level 4's.

I make noticable more doing lvl 4 missions than 0,0 ratting (in very good 0,0 systems)
However there is just a certain amount of time I can spend on one thing before getting conciderable boored so I cyckle between complexing, npcing and missioning in empire.
