I've been pretty much sailing through level 3 missions in my Ferox. I recently got a Quality 18 agent for them and decided to go ahead and pony up for a Raven in preparation for level 4 missions. My second level 3 mission in my Raven is Massive Attack, and I must say this is the hardest mission I've tackled yet.
The first two rooms are no problem, but I always have to warp out on the third room. I nearly lost my brand new Raven last night when I had the misfortune to be multiple-webbed while nearly atop an asteroid. By sheer luck I got it outta there with a bit of armor left, and in another stroke of pure luck I lost my internet connection while repairing my armor back at the station.
So what's the trick for that 3rd room?
My setup (basically ripped off my Ferox - still training for cruise/torpedoes):
6 X Heavy Missile Launchers w/Thunderbolts(a couple named launchers in there) 2 X Tractors
1 X C5-L XL SB 1 X Shield Boost Amp 1 X Named EM Hardener 1 X Named Thermal Hardener 2 X Large Tech II Shield Extenders
2 X BCU (1 named) 1 X Damage Control 1 X SPR 1 X PDS
In the third room, my shields go down faster than George Michael in a men's room. I hit the booster, but sooner or later I'm out of cap. If I send my drones out (have tried with and without drones) they may kill 1 or 2 frigs, but by then either I have to warp out, or the drones have been shot to **** themselves. I've wondered - would I be better off getting back in my Ferox for this mission just for the increased shield resistances? I'm stumped... TIA for any help.

When I jumped from my ferox to a raven I soon realised two things. Extenders was much less effective then on the ferox and my capasitor skills was way behind what was needed for effectivly piloting a raven. I got rid of the extenders and got hold of 2 invulnerability (VM-15) and 2 mission specific hardeners. For the 2 open mids I use an amp and a named booster.
Then I started to train Energy systems, shield comp and energy man. all to leve IV. Cap problems havent been a problem up untill you get a raven but then it definitely will be. You should get a large NOS too.
As for the mission you dont have to kill everything in the third room. Just the two main bad guyes.

Edited by: Evangeline d''Arcy on 18/10/2006 18:10:55 When you arrive in the third room, immediately turn right and head out of the asteroid field, away from the cruisers and BCs. You should only get aggro from a handful of frigates/destroyers (they're difficult to tell apart ), if you can't manage those I really don't know what to tell you. Get the group with the interceptors next (use light drones on those and your missiles for the Spectres, they deal non-trivial DPS once in range), after that it's pretty much over.
Also, drop one extender for an EM hardener and lose the shield power relay, it's an active tank after all.

Thanks guys. I will attempt it again whenever I get released from bondage... I mean, work. I have noticed that the cap on the Raven seems to be quite a bit more volatile than the cap on the Ferox.
I think I know one of my mistakes in the third room - IIRC I was attempting to kill all the bigger ships first and trying to ignore the frigs and destroyers. Tonight I will make sure to only attack those that are attacking me.
I read that you can bookmark something in the third room and warp directly there - is this true?

Yes. If I remember correctly, the mission does not take place in deadspace despite the acceleration gates, so any BMs made inside can be warped to directly. (It's in the mission description too I believe.) |

Hi, I think Raven is over doing it. Just fit your Ferox with 3xL.Extenders II 2x Invu II 2/3x Shield Power Relays 1/2x BDUIIs or 1x BDUII & 1x Power Diagnostic System. You should have no problem taking any lvl3 mission with this fit + some degree of skills :)
ps: When you come in the third room you only get ebil frigs on ya you can try and gain some ground moving away from 'em

L3 Massive Attack is easy even for Ferox. As soon as you reach 3rd room set a bookmark and jump away immediately. Then return in 60-80km from bm and you will able to kill each group one by one.

This is what I ended up doing, and it worked great. I also switched from all Thunderbolts to 2 Thunderbolts/4 Widowmakers.
I also equipped 2 medium named smartbombs - those were awesome. I'd never used them before for fear of the Concordokken. On the second stage there is a bank of about 8-10 turrets, all in a big cluster. 2 of these turrets are stasis webbers, so I took those out first. Once those were gone, I ignored the rest of the turrets and focused my missiles on the ships. I set a collision course with the cluster of turrets, and fired my smartbombs once I'd rammed the bank.
It took some cycles to take them out, but the ensuing fireworks were spectacular.

That is your problem - you're trying to make raven both passive and active shielding. Drop down both extenders, add one more EM hardener and one invul. Drop SPR, add another PDS in lows. I can stay in MA 3rd room in my Ferox forever, and never had to warp out from any mission, GE bonus included. Raven with NO skills isn't any better, but still should be good. -------------------------------------------- Just flying to the nearest mall -------------------------------------------- |

very easy real when u know how, warp into the 3rd area and let the group of frigs attack u. kill all the ones attacking u, dont shoot anything else until all the attacking frigs are dead. Next there is a group of 3 frigs and 3 crusers kill them dont attack the 4 by the gate or the 2 on there own yet. once those 6 are dead, kill the 2 on there own then take out the 4 last ones at the gate. Easy to do even in a rox just carful pulling needed

raven is a pure active tank machine. Get rid of those damn extenders and fit 4 mission specific hardners. Here is my setup althoug using a raven on level 4 is like bringing a bazooka to a knife fight.
Hi: 6X Cruise rat specific ammo 2X heavy diminishing NOS (Don't Nos the frigates...get at least a cruiser)
Med: XL CL-5 Overload SB (Or Best named) SB Amplifier (Best Named) 4x T2 Hardners (Don't use invuln 2's however..if it's Kinietc and thermal you need, fit 2 of each...if it's all aamage types fit one of each) Low: 3x PDS T2 2X BCU T2
Mission specific drones T2 if you got em
