I'm training up a hauler alt, and can't choose which freighter to go for. I'm thinking either Minmatar, because it's the fastest one, or Gallente, because it'll give me access to Iteron for situations where I can't use a freighter.
I plan to stop training this character after I get the freighter skill to lvl 3-4, it'll be just a hauler.
Any advice would be great :)

Caldari because their freighter is the biggest.
They all warp the same speed, so as long as you use instas it's the best one for the job.

fenrir is the fastest and charon has the largest cargo space..
so if you really need the space go for the charon, otherwise the fenrir.. atleast that's what I think.

trade off
Badgers arent that great but the Charon is sweet
Iteron V is sweet but the Obelisk isnt as big
Amaar Industrials are mediocre at best and so is the freighter
Mimatar Inustrials are faster and nice the freighter is a decent compromise.

Either train for the freighter that you've got highest industrial skills at the moment, or train for the Minmatar freighter since it's the fastest and most agile.
Ordinarily, I'd recommend the best looking ship, but it's a matter of taste. Personally, I prefer the Providence and secondarily the Charon (it looks like a RAM memory!).

I'd say charon, 'cause it's the biggest and for a freighter, that's all that really matters IMO. It also gives you access to bustards and cranes, which are good ships for their class, if you train up industry 5 as well (which isn't too hard).
I usually use the freighter AFK in empire, though. If you want to use it to do freighter ops in 0.0, the agility and speed on the fenrir would make it the better choice, although that's like comparing the agility of a blue whale to that of a sperm whale. Sure, one's a bit quicker, but damn, they're both WHALES. ---

Edited by: Ohmy Fugod on 18/10/2006 19:53:01 Charon, you want the largest possible cargo hold by far.
Speed is a ridiculous aspect to consider in freighters, you won't be beating anything other than a station in a race anyway, and if you're not using instas, the docking/jumping crawl will be just as bad with any of them.
The in-betweens however could pose something to consider. Badger MkII or Iteron V, It would all depend on what your plans are. If you expect to move around a lot of medium (around 10k m3) loads, then yes Gallente would be the way to go, since it can be fit for extra agility better than a Badger. Otherwise go Charon and don't look back. -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+

I all you want is freightor, Charon. It's the biggest but damn, they're all ginormous.
If you plan on using the T1 hauler go Gallente or Minmatar (since they're the biggest).
If you plan on using the T2 hauler, go Minmatar since they're (arguably) the best T2 hauler, they're the second best T1 hauler and they're the fastest freighter.
I have Gallente because of the Itty 5 and I absolutely don't regret it. If I had to choose again, I might go with Minmatar since more of my corpies fly Mammoths than Itty 5 so there's more around in 0.0. _____________________

Thanks everyone for your advice.
I'm using a new character and he doesn' know any industrial ships, so that's not a consideration.
Speed vs cargo capacity is a difficult tradeoff - if I use instas then speed is not important, but if I afk haul in high sec being 33% faster is much better then having 9% extra cargo capacity.
Ah well, I have 10 days of training spaceship command until I have to make the decision :)

Go for the Gal. one because indy lvl 5 is a requirment and out of all the industrials the gallente ones are the best... the iteron V with expanders can fit a bs inside :) so if your going for efficiency over looks go for the gal one.

Unless you intend to afk trade with the freighter (in which case you should go for the minmatar one), you want the charon as it has the most cargo space. But TBH freighters are more or less similar to shuttles, there is not much difference between them other than the look!
