Now I'm not talking about specific ships I'm talking about types. This is to help me decided on what I need to train. I think the more important ones are battleship, interceptor, and mining barge.

Battleship, Command Battle Cruiser, and Interceptor.
With these you can stay afloat economically and also focus on what makes EVE fun. Well, fun for me - I like PvP a lot.
Battleship - it's a BATTLE ship. Command Battle Cruiser - CBC, aka CareBearCruiser. It gets agents to give you cash. Interceptor - T2 shuttles! Also doubles as tacklers when you notice everyone's come down with the e-peen damage competition. - What am I listening to? |

Don't train for Battleships unless you're planning on heavily running missions.
They're getting nerfed by the day and every single future modification they talk about involves yet another nerf, to the point where right now quite a few of them can be solo'ed by a single frigate.
So, the best success/investment ratio seems to be shared between T2 Frigates and T1 Cruisers (Thorax *cough*), with HAC's following behind, which some are damn good (Vagabond) but their lack of full insurance, intensive training and quite steep prices keep them away from the #1 podium.
A T1 Cruiser with good fittings isn't that much cheaper than a proportionally equally fit T2 frig.
Well this is about non-fleet PVP, of course. For fleet pvp I understand it doesn't matter what you fly, cause things just insta pop, including your ship should it be chosen as primary.
Hope this helps. -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+

Absolute rubbish.
The BS is the backbone of every major force and always will be. If you're getting owned by a single frigate I can only conclude that you have absolutely no idea how to play EVE.
Or are you just bitter about Nos not being able to completely disable an interceptor in one cycle? Serious BS pilots fit neuts because they always have a capwar advantage over other, non-capital ship classes.

Yeah what the crap is that guy talking about ?? BS's are the backbone and swiss army knife of EvE for the most part....
I agree w/ the second post, BS, CBC and Inty sounds about right, except atm I like a BS, Rupture, and Inty; the Rupture serves the same purpose as the CBC except I dont get agents to give me cash...

Eh? no, not at all.
And as a matter of fact, after all the knowledge I gathered from different sources, you won't catch me dead pvp'ing in a bs, never did, and never will.
It is, however, "Absolute Rubbish" to say that battleships represent an asset in non-fleet pvp, which is after all, what I was talking about. Maybe a Scorp, if someone still decides to engange it. Everything else can be done just as well with less skills and/or isk.
It's also absolute rubbish to try to deny BS's are getting nerfed by the day. It's out there, it's what's happening. I'm just glad I never went past what you need to comfortably run lvl 4's.
"Backbone of every respectable force?" Such a nice phrase, huh? Sadly it only applies to large scale pvp, something that isn't precisely the #1 thing people perform in Eve pvp.
And, lo and behold, that sniping thing where 200km-away fleet battles ocur, and where battleships outgun lesser vessels and thus they become that "backbone" you're talking about, seems that it's about to change too.
So I'm sorry to burst your bubble sir, and believe me when I say I'd love to pvp in a BS, but they've been hit so hard with the nerf bat thanks to that overly missused and abused line: "they're not solo pwnmobiles", that undoubtly the best thing to do is to go for a lesser ship, isk, training time and success-wise. -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+

I'd take the time to reply to all that, except there wasn't a single line of content in your post.
Make a clear list of nerfs that will make BS obsolete and I will knock every single one down. Otherwise I have better things to do then argue with someone who bases his experience on "knowledge I gathered from different sources".

Well personal experience isn't the only source of knowledge. You probably didn't learn to read by yourself, did you?
And if personal experience implies spending weeks and tons of isk to acquire a piece of knowledge that can be done by asking or/and heavily browsing the forums, then I'll certainly place it as a second choice.
I see however you're more inclined to throw yourself in denial instead of discussing the situation. Rageful fits and haughty attitude leads to nowhere.
I propose to discuss things seriously. After all, it ain't my battleship the one thats getting nerfed man.
Edit: Mind you, my BS skills aren't bad and been flying one for months already. I just wouldn't use one for PVP. -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+

And guy above me, whoever you are, you are wrong, period. No need to discuss the extent to which you are or the extent to which various sources have told you you are not, it's simply not up for discussion, end of story. BS's are still and will for a good while remain one of the most if not the most usefull and versatily single ships in Eve. If I'd have to choose one ship to own, it would still probably end up being a BS at this point. Or at the very least it would be the second ship i'd want to own.

Battleships are a core skill of any combat pilot. There is no ship type in eve that is as versitile. Missions, 0.0 ratting, solo, small gang, fleet, you can setupa bs to fit pretty much all those roles.
Battleship Interceptor T1 Cruiser
Those 3 types can do 99% of everything in eve. Other shiptypes are simply more specialised and even without training specifically for them you'll natually grow skills into hacs\commandships\etc.

Alright. Where did I say they were useless? I just mentioned they got nerfed already, and seemingly, they'll continue to be so. I never said I never flown one, I just wouldn't develope any deeper, pvp-focused, training for them, which was what the OP was asking.
To that maniatic fella that keeps shouting, you're talking about current knowledge. I never pvp'ed in one, so true, I don't have first hand experience of that particular point. And I definitely know how good they are and would love to fly a nosdomi or raven for pvp.
I just, like a stock agent, am telling you, dude, it's not hard to foresee they'll be hit again soon.
But again, I never said they were useless, I just believe you read "battleship" and "nerf" in the same post, and just freaked out and started to attack and insult, just like if that would keep your vessels safe.
Which would lead me to believe that you do know how much people complain about battleships being overpowered here in the forums.
But, and here's the point I think most of you folks didn't understand:
IF: a) Devs and players alike keep saying: "they should not be solo pwnmobiles". b) And thus moans about those facts can be heard every day. c) If BS's never seemed to move outta the top spot at the "nerf requests" (Nos, 200km sniping, etc) list. d) Devs do hear those whines and do pay attention to forums. e) They have already been nerfed in the past.
AND: - Players reivindicate their role and also complain that it's just ridiculous that a battleship can be pwned by a few frigates (which I completely agree), showing that most pilots are indeed aware of the anti-bs tendendcies. - Nerfs (such as the one capital ships suffered a few days ago) happen suddendly and are seldomly warned about.
Why would you recommend them as a viable, long lasting choice?
But I got another question, look:
Despite all of the above, you still show up talking about how good and versatile battleships are, and some of you are pretty much saying they're "solopwnmobiles", a phrase wielded by every single anti-bs guy and their mothers, so this leads me to ask... Which side are you reallyon??? -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+

Battleship (for a less time-consuming option, Cruisers) Interceptor Industrial
This is what I feel is important. I mine with a BS into a jet-can, haul with my Industrial, and then have fun ratting or PvP'ing in my Interceptor. Industrials are also immediately useful for corporations, because not many people like to haul during mining operations, they all like to mine. By training Industrials, you become a very useful part of the entire operation.
Purely my own opinion. You're welcome to yours.

THEN: Why would you recommend them as a viable, long lasting choice?
If you ask me, I will always steer towards the safest bet. In this case, a lesser-sized ship, such as T2 Frig, T1 Cruisers, BC's, which aren't always in the nerfing crossfire.
I wouldn't risk myself to go for what's clearly the best today, when you can see the nerf coming a mile away. But that's just me, and that's why I didn't advice to spend what a BS requires to be properly flown, either isk or time wise.
So someone please tell me what does this have to do with having PVP experience with BS's or not.
Tell you what, it doesn't have to do with PVP experience at all, it has to do with being aware of what's going on around the game. BS's good? You bet. They gonna get nerfed again? I think so. Sorry for repeating myself again, but the point has to get through some day.
But I got another question, look:
Despite all of the above, you still show up talking about how good and versatile battleships are, and some of you are pretty much saying they're "solopwnmobiles", a phrase wielded by every single anti-bs guy and their mothers, so this leads me to ask...

So, let me get this straight. Your outright telling someone that I am guessing is new, to not go out and try and get into a BS, on the premise that somewhere down the line, it's possible that BS's will be nerfed...? And don't try and claim that you didn't say BS's were bad, you outright stated it when you said it was possible for a frigate to solo BS's cause they were so bad. Stop changing your argument. Actually, stop making arguments, because they are based on absolutely nothing. Everytime you give advice, a noob(and kitten) dies. Also, your telling people not to put in the training time for BS's? It takes 10 days to get in one, and all of the other support skills should be trained up eventually anyway, get a clue. --

A BS can be set up to kill every other non-capital class of ship in the game, some setups like the ECM/Nosdomi even manages to take on pretty much anything. Since there is no indication of a bigtime BS nerf in Kali (and thats probably another year until release), I cant say Im surprised that every single poster except Ohmy Fugod has recommended them.
Er, Kali1 is the part of the overall Kali expansion that's going to be adding the new ships. And it's due out sometime in the next couple-three months.

1. Battleship <- this is your Boy. it is and always will be (as was said earlier) the standard issue swiss army knife of eve, Power and versatility.
2. Interceptors <- A frigate class ship for speed and to have some fun, they fill an essential pvp role for when the battleships are just too slow and heavy to lock down your target, some may prefer assault frigs or cov ops roles, but for me the interceptor is the ship that does its job best
3. Cruiser <- the humble cruiser, cheap, versatile, effective, great way to learn all most all aspects of the game at low cost. Also training these skills up will later allow you to branch into recons hacs and even command ships (hacs are completly overpriced though so i wouldent nail yourself to that one just yet),
Just my 2 cents :)

Well personal experience isn't the only source of knowledge. You probably didn't learn to read by yourself, did you?
That doesn't qualify you to teach someone else how to read spanish. See, you can read (in general), but with no experience your instruction in teaching someone to read spanish holds no value at all.
Here:
What you have demonstrated with experience carries more weight than merely what you have read someone else say.
Most of us would call this "common sense." I'm sad that you don't seem to see it.
So you read this and that. Do you believe everything you read? Coz experience would show you better than anything else what sources were right and wrong and it's the only way to really know for sure.
Merely taking a poll of all your sources can be misleading. If two say the wrong thing and one says the right thing, you could assume the wrong thing. Experience is the only way to demonstrate the truth.
Quote: And if personal experience implies spending weeks and tons of isk to acquire a piece of knowledge that can be done by asking or/and heavily browsing the forums, then I'll certainly place it as a second choice.
The first problem is you aren't even giving us anything specific to go on regarding your problem with BS. What exactly are you reading and/or being told?
Secondly, you can't demonstrate the truth of these matters to yourself, and refusing to gain the skill/money/EXPERIENCE to do so only hardens you in your position. You can never prove that what you think you know is wrong.
These two issues will guarantee that no one takes your opinion about BS's seriously. You could start gaining some respect by actually making specific comments rather than sweeping, incorrect generalizations.
Quote: I see however you're more inclined to throw yourself in denial instead of discussing the situation. Rageful fits and haughty attitude leads to nowhere.
I gave you an example of common sense. This quote could be an example of "haughty." You dismiss those who disagree with you, even when they have experience you do not. Your lack of experience means you have ABSOLUTELY NO REAL IDEA how stupid you could possibly make yourself look. And yet, when someone who is more of an authority than you are comes along and disagrees with you, it's them who are in denial.
I hate to tell you this, but there are alot of paranoid and generally mentally screwed up people out there and they often carry this same trait - "I am right and you are in denial about it."
Aliens abducted me and forced me to be the host to their hybrid baby that will hatch from my body on my death. And anyone who says otherwise is just in denial about the existence of aliens!
Quote: I propose to discuss things seriously.
I hope you are sincere, but the lack of content in your post doesn't spell good news to me.
Quote: After all, it ain't my battleship the one thats getting nerfed man.
Edit: Mind you, my BS skills aren't bad and been flying one for months already. I just wouldn't use one for PVP.
I've never flown my own BS, but I've flown them (on a friend's computer). I don't own one to get nerfed (I'm skilling for my own). I'm actually very, very curious about all these nerfs you are talking about which make the BS obsolete (so I can redirect my training if necessary).
So put up. Tell us about it, and let some people respond. I'd love to see that discussion.

These last two are probably good facts. The first three make me want to borrow your crystal ball. In any case, everything you've said paints a circumstantial picture at best... unfortunately that's not very helpful to me at all.
Quote: THEN: Why would you recommend them as a viable, long lasting choice?
If you ask me, I will always steer towards the safest bet. In this case, a lesser-sized ship, such as T2 Frig, T1 Cruisers, BC's, which aren't always in the nerfing crossfire.
Your logic isn't making sense. It might make sense if you were talking about T2 BSs vs T2 cruisers, but obviously you can't be. Insure your BS, it's a safe bet. If changes occur you don't like or cause you not to want your ship, sell it. If that happens to be the worst time to sell it, sell it to your insurance company if you know what I mean... I don't see the downside here at all, dude.
Quote: I wouldn't risk myself to go for what's clearly the best today, when you can see the nerf coming a mile away.
Why play the game at all? It's just gonna end up changing.
Quote: Despite all of the above, you still show up talking about how good and versatile battleships are, and some of you are pretty much saying they're "solopwnmobiles", a phrase wielded by every single anti-bs guy and their mothers, so this leads me to ask...
Which side are you really on???
How about the side that knows because they know, not because they're told?
Seriously, about the solopwnmobiles... how many times have BSs attacked you and you came out on top in a smaller ship? Estimate.
When it happens to my T1 frigs-BCs, I usually don't survive. If I'm ready with some ECM and quick-thinking and quick-reacting, I might survive by escaping. If I catch one off guard, happen to have enough firepower, and the target doesn't know what they're doing I might have a chance. That has happened exactly zero times.
Maybe I'm a noob, but it seems to me plenty often that I'm losing a fight because the other guy has tons more HP and firepower than I do.
So maybe they are solopwnmobiles. I don't see any problem with BSs right now that needs a nerf even if it turns out that I'm completely right. The things that matter in such a fight (like tracking speed or weapon calibers) matter. A small ship not designed to collide with a giant projectile is going to have a rougher time shrugging it off - IF the larger ship has the accuracy to inflict the damage in the first place.
You still haven't even said how they had been nerfed in the past, and how your crystal ball says they'll be nerfed in the future.

That's just a different kind of experience you are making your conclusions with.

+1 /*----------------------------------------------------------------------------------*/ My opinion in no way represents that of my corp or anyone I am associated with, and is probably entirely wrong. |

Carrier - 0.0 ISK machine and the ultimate in personal logistics, all in one package. HAC/CBC/Recon - pick one. All great for solo work and small gangs. Inty - pod transport, affordable PvP.
I'd like to stuck a BS somewhere on the list, but if I could fly all 3, I could do without it. Even though I would already have most skills for it. ------ No ISK, no fun |

Cov ops are definitely worth it, but they're a speciality. If a small corp can get 1-2 cov op pilots at any time, they're set.
If you're a die hard industrial, cov op becomes pretty much a must for BPO transport. Even if you're not paranoid, they're out to get you . ------ No ISK, no fun |

BS - fleet battles CS - gang support, great for smaller hunts recon - do i have to explain?
I think those are the best for pvp. However, it is also impossible to live without haulers and ice mining barges - BS can mine minerals but not ice. So for the whole mix of everything you need: BS barge recon

I am not sure but I think this is how I would pick my top 3.
BS: My favourite ship in EVE by far. Commandships: I haven't flown any of those but I like BCs so... Intys: Just got into one afew days ago and I <3 it. _____

I'd say it's eihter a Machariel or Vindicator. With all the trimmings, they're pretty close to godhood. ------ No ISK, no fun |

Well, I'm not interesting in winning the game...just in having fun. IMHO a BS is a TON O'FUN/WHUP*** pretty much anywhere against any single ship in it's class or below, simply by virtue of it's fittings and statistics. Is a BS going to win everytime? No. Is it going to make an unskilled/impatient/spoiled mama's boy pilot invinceable? No(thank the goddess). But it's a deadly opponent when properly equipped and placed in the hands of a good pilot, and that is what makes it FUN! Then again, pretty much ANY SHIP can be a fun ship if outfitted and flown intelligently.

command ship, recon ship, interceptor.
except for the long range sniping, command ships can do most thing as well or better than bs. itty v/mammoth and carrier for HM.

The alts the alts it makes my head ache... for the new guy
get urself a raven for ratting to make money an apoc for mining till u can get an uber barge enough skills with haulers so you can fit a cruiser in the cargo with expanders an interceptor so you can zip around and tie down people and your choice of command ship hac or battleship for when you feel like doing some dmg
cruisers are a great place to start as you will lose ships and losing cruisers is a good way to get the "its not the end of the world" idea in your head instead of loosing that cerberus that someone made a 10 jump trip through hostile territory without instas in a hauler to bring you 15 min after you undocked it...

Are AF's bad? I kind of wanted to get one, but everyone seems to think Interceptors are better. It seemed like a good progression before HAC.

for pvp nothing really beats the tech 1 cruiser, cheap and versitle. they can trash AFs or trash other cruisers and in gangs even take on battleships, HACs and other big expensive things.
never underestimate the power of tech 1.

Best 3 ships to own.
1. Whatever seems like it might be fun.
2. Whatever seems like it might be fun.

Because this is a freaking game and if you are not doing it for fun then you are pretty freakin' stupid.

Recon Command Ships Interdictors
Most Important for General Life (in 0.0)
Battleships (ratting) command ships are getting more popular for this too Intercepters (empire runs / high speed travel) Transports (picking up loot and moving ****)
