Hey,
All my life in EVE I have heard that Ice mining was the big dream of all miners. So now I'm working towards learning the skills for that, and I already got myself a retriever with 2 strip miners. However after some "market research" I noticed that mining pyroxeres would be more profitable than mining White Glaze!
So I guess it's not the best way of mining? I'm still a noob and quite unprotected, only having 4 hornet drones as defense, so I wouldn't want to venture into low sec... but what would be the most profitable thing to mine then? I'm ... confused.

Varies from area to area. Most new players aim for their local ore with the highest concetration of isogen.

Lanfear's Bane.
Ahhhhh..... That explains why all the Omber in Verge Vendor is gone within 2 hours of spawn time.

Jeez I'd rather try to knock myself unconsious with my mouse than mine ice. It's unbelivably tedious and makes very little profit.
Omber or kernite are the two best ores to mine for profit.
The real big dream for mings in arknor, bistot and crokite. You talking 90mil+ per hour using a hulk and good skills. -----

omber is the winner in highsec, followed by kernite.

That will show you a rough idea how many minerals you could get, There is a better displayed table on another site but i cant find a link atm.

Omber has the best Isogen yield, but omber sectors are also plagioclase sectors. Kernite tends to be in the same sector as pyroxeres which contain small amounts of Nocxium, the first ore that makes money on quality rather than volume. In the end it is more important to find a spot that is relatively unvisited by other prospecters as there is good money to be made from any ore that you can haul large quantities of without having to compete for it.
