Hello all,
I was thinking it would nice to have a built-in UI ability to designate friend or for on your ships. Something like a code that is secret to your corporation that you type into your ship that will indicate on d scan and combat probe that your ship belongs to this Corp or Alliance or fleet or whatever.
That way we don't have to put a bunch of junk characters on our ships names and scanners will be able to filter through ship results easier while scanning down a target.
Also might add an intriguing new espinoge mechanic where a surprise attack can be triggered by stealing the friend or for code for an enemy.
Thoughts?

This is already a thing. Hold the alt key and type a 3-4 number combination while in game to get a symbol out of the character map. Find ones you like, then make your corp use them in their ship names.
EvE is hard. It's harder if you're stupid.
I couldn't have said it better.

on that note, OP, if you actually TALK to your fleet, and dont fly silly-meta, its fairly easy to keep track of who is with who, even in 100+ pilots in space.
(and by silly meta, yes, if everyone is flying the same goddamn ship types in both fleets *cough*ishtar*cough*, then be ready to have the consequence of that be more difficult and inaccurate intel) |

We're THE most obese nation on the planet. That's right. You lost the obesity race.

Standings don't show up on d scan. I think it's a pretty cool idea. As for the characters, that also tells everyone else looking who you belong to (even if only in a vague sense).

Works pretty well as it is.
Much cooler than having to somehow steal a secret out of game code is to just mimic the naming designs of your targets. depending on if they use a sophisticated naming structure, communicate well and/or are smart, you may or may not succeed in your deception.

im for it, itd be nice to know that the probes out in a wormhole belong to someone on your side instead of the group going "OMG PROBEZ RUN TO POZ" and anyone with an intelligence can see if your corp is using a naming rhythm and copy it, there you have a wolf in sheeps clothing. but then again thinking isn't most of the people strong suit on here past making a new alt just to get in a corp and to properly take down details and do set ups.

When you probe in systems with lots of churn, you learn to just narrow things down a lot, use overview to your advantage, and then hone in on specific IDs.
If you or your squad is using d-scan simultaneously, it's easy to just do tight scans in certain places to quickly eliminate false positives. |

Not sure if I like how Eve is always getting easier.
But I can only say logically this makes sense. It is called a transponder and was invented a very long time ago.
Combine it with turning all locals to delayed mode and it definitely has my vote.

*EDIT* Grammar perhaps once local is removed, if only because null is supposed to be a step AWAY from womrholes in inherent infrastructure. so we can look at this again once local is gone, as a sorta handicap for nullsecers who cant brave the final frontier |

Don't really understand your comment.
The idea that this could be tied with delayed local, is that it will not just make Eve easier then.
It will remove the current unintended chat system that basically makes space mechanics to detect intruders obsolete, while giving a space mechanic to ID your own ships, that logically makes a lot of sense to have. |

No its not.
The game having 1 bad feature shouldn't stop every other thought about changes. Having a larger picture about the game as a whole instead of only worrying about 1 thing is a good thing. |

Actually it is.
Local will tell the prober/scanner what is there already.
Lets go 0.0....local is all blue. We can assume ratters gonna rat. If getting hits on scans in the area of something the game now tells you is there you know its a blue.
Now lets have blues and neuts/reds in local. We can assume no one is ratting. Or is afk and about to die lol. If this crew has any balls there should be a welcome committee fleet up and running. A fleet saying where they are and what they are doing. A prober should know where his people are at to cut down on false positives. His people should know where he is at. If only because once reds/neuts found seconds matter to getting that fleet jumping targets and not empty space as they bad guys done left seconds ago because fleet had miscommunication problems.
Call me jaded but if that fleet can't work good communication to pull this off with better results...thats not a mechanic problem. thats a corp training/discipline issue really. Something they better fix real soon if the predicted reign of trollceptor proves to be more truth than prepatch hysterics.
Now no local (or delayed)....there actually is a fog of war here. One that could use this feature. Till then....this is just a lazy feature for people who cba to use corp chat/comms for something like "hey Todd, you know you are in local with a neut, right? Your ass better not be ratting lol. Where are you at so I can disregard 1 hit scans in that area?".
