Quick clarification on ęconstructiveĘ. This does not mean shouting for nerfs, crying because you think something is unbalanced, or bumping threads for the sake of parroting what someone else is saying. Think for yourself. Do not get caught up in the anecdotal, misinformed world of the ęforum warriorĘ. Play the damn game and find out for yourself if you can counter something. Try to work around the problem. If finally it seems that there really might be an issueą speak up on the forumsą considerately and maturely. If you like to think that EVE is better than WoWą then a good start is to improve the image of our communityą instead of ruining it.
In the famous words of Jello Biafra ū
ęOur land, I love it too. I think I love it more than you. I care enough to fightąĘ
If changes to EVE bother you then you probably love the game. If you love EVE then it is impossible to not respect those responsible for it. If you respect those responsible for the game then you should care enough to lay off the hurtful comments and other assorted garbage. Either play the game despite the fact that you hate it (irony), cancel your subscription and write your congressmaną or do what many of us do and simply continue to play, see how the changes effect youą and live with it till our Devs can make further tweaks. Whatever you doą be adult about it.
If you love EVEą share your input with the Devs and keep playing the game.
If you hate EVEą donĘt leave angry. Just leave.

Many of you should be ashamed of yourselvesą and of the rest of our community.
I avoid these forums like the plagueą and now, more than ever, I understand why. It seems most players are content with being abusive and hateful as an alternative to constructive criticism. In the absence of the ability to communicate constructively many forum posters are more than happy to hide behind the anonymity of the Intraweb and fire verbal assaults at many folks who couldnĘt possibly be paid enough to deal with you all.
ęARGH! The Devs are constantly listening to the whiners!!Ę
IĘd like to invite you all to conjure up memories of a gaming community where it seemed that the Devs did not even have access to their own boards. Never, in my nearly two decades of gaming, NEVER have I been a part of a community where the Devs were even a fraction as involved in the community as they are here in EVE.
If you all would like to partake of a game where the Devs do not listen to the communityą feel free to go choose from any of the other active MMOsą where such a situation is alive and well. And while youĘre thereą tell the community how stupid it is when Devs actually listen to the players. IĘm sure the folks on those forums will have a pretty unanimous response for youą and that particular response entails some intimate contact with farm animals, K-Y Jelly, and a week of bed-rest.
ęThis game is totally unbalanced! Unlike back in the olden days in 2003, even though my character was created last year!Ę
Anyone with a shred of logic and memories of early days in EVE will tell you that you are entirely incorrect. Does EVE have issues currently? Yesą primarily those regarding server stability. Are there some balance issues? Sure. Balancing a game between four races, four main weapon types, hundreds or skills, modules, ships, and myriad other factors was a recipe for disaster. The fact the CCP chose to even undergo such a balancing nightmare is beyond me. However, much to my surpriseą this game is very well-balanced despite itĘs nearly unfathomable complexity.
How about the alternative? Hmm? LetĘs have everything made the same! Yeah, thatĘs a great idea! I just found out this week from a friend of mine still trapped in WoW that the Horde are getting Paladins and that Alliance is getting Shamans. Want to know why? Because the Blizzard doesnĘt have the dedication or intestinal fortitude of CCP.
How about instead of becoming verbal abusive you get to know the game and provide some constructive inputą even if that means just considerately stating that you arenĘt happy with something. Making foolish comments regarding the Devs and how horribly balanced that game is currently only makes you look rude, inconsiderate, and (quite honestly) stupid.
ęTuxĘs main is Gallente! ThatĘs why Amarr suck!Ę
How many of you are familiar with the days when Caldari ships were a joke? When the Caracal had hybrid gun bonuses? When the ScorpionĘs bonuses changed once a month? When no one really knew what the Caldari were supposed to be? Many players kept plugging along in the early days of the game, despite their frustration, to finally find that the Devs were taking the time to address problems and balance issues thoroughly.
One aspect of game balance is that when one thing is changedą another must be tweaked in order to bring the pendulum into line again. Game balance is inherently difficultą particularly in a game of this complexity.
Yes, it sucks to see some changes take months, and months, and months. I posted regularly regarding the Nighthawk for almost a year before I finally found that Tux had decided to make some changes. Does this make him a bad person? Does it make him dumb? Does it mean he is out of touch? Stop making accusatory comments that are designed to incite and hurtą and start being constructive.

Well, I do not blame CCP for not wishing to communicate sensitive subjects. The community should blame themselves for it. Subscription games are funny because adults are the biggest kids in the playground. Big kids.

Good stuff, Tovarishch. Critical discussion is neccessary, and encouraged, but flaming, accusing and venting is not. It's "only" on the net, but we should never discard consideration for others.

Agreed. People on this forum are pretty flamey, whiney, and expect the devs to do miricles. Dosn't work that way people :)

It's rare threads, such as this one, that make me rethink my general loathing of people. It's nice to see a rational person.

The problem with these good, wholesome, well-thought-out threads is people can't add anything to them, or argue against them, so they're quickly replaced with whine/flame/troll threads. ----- Griffin -- 100,000 ISK ECM - Multispectral Jammer Is -- 20,000 ISK Standar Missile Launcher Is -- 10,000 ISK War target sobbing over losing a fight in his T2 fitted Battleship -- priceless |

You might as well open your window and shout your unnecesarily long post out the window, you would get the same response from a random pedestrian.

TBH after playing wow these forums are like a breath of frsh air just go over to their forums if you want to see immatuirty, whining and the worst flaming and horrible insults ive seen on boards in a long time. Agreed there are a fair few whiners and idiots on this board but compared to the rest of the internet its heaven. If you want an example of how this community compares to others look in the new members forum and see how that compares to other games. Most other games you get flamed and called a noob etc for asking any kind of question however here you get always about 2 or more replies that are very helpful and always welcoming and curtious
thats my 2 cents on this anyway -----------------------

QFT all of the above
whats annoying is that a lot of people seem to think they can do a dev's job better then they can- wether its balancing or solving lag or whatever. chances are, they dont even know what they're talking about.
if i was tuxford i would either be crying in a corner somewhere or nerfing ship structure HP 100% so every ship explodes the moment it undocks. i'm surprised at his fortitude, anyways.

Yeah this community over the last year and a half has gotten to be pretty damn mean. I myself lashed out on certain occasions, but surely enough, CCP is pulling it together and carrying on.
After Revelations deployment im sure we will have the "OMFG I LOVE YOU CCP" threads tho with people marking their appreciation.

Bravo. You've summed up, very succintly the bulk of my feelings for forum nonsense. I think we've all suffered though lame tactics, endured lag, and yearned for our races ships to be a bit tougher/faster/deadly/TFUest. But the thing that keeps me coming back for more is how amazing this game is both as a concept, and as a realized universe. I want Kali now, but I'm glad they're keeping it under wraps until they think it's ready. I hate cloaked snipers 200km from gates and find them deeply lame, but those pilots are well within their rights to do that. And more to the point I know that once upon a time sniping was nerfed to the point of unuseable, and that further evolution will come. Speaking of which I've seen (in only 9 months) a seemingly huge amount of evolution in this game, and I do feel like I'm a part of it. How amazing is that.
