I've not played long, and I was wondering a few things. A friend told me that Gallente are better armor tanking than shield tanking. Is this correct?
Also, what skills would be best for this?
If there is somewhere I can look for suggested character builds, could someone list them for me?
Many thanks.

Edited by: Kyreax on 21/10/2006 21:39:03 Gallente PEOPLE are no better armor-tankers than anyone else. There's no "racial bonus" like Dungeons and Dragons at work here.
However, Gallente SHIPS are better armor-tankers in general because of their armor (and hull?) hitpoints are higher than other races, and the ships' slots are set up to armor-tank (able to fit more armor-tank specific modules)
Mechanic skills are very very important for armor-tanking, as well as capacitor skills:
Mechanic (more hitpoints) Hull Upgrades (to fit better modules) Repair Systems (for shorter repair module cycles)
Engineering skills: Energy System Ops (more available cap, hence faster recharge) Energy Management (faster cap recharge)
Specific char builds? Well, just remember that charisma is kinda useless, so keep that lower than others. The above skills require intelligence and memory, so boost those if you can, it will result in faster training for them.

Also in Mechanic there are 4 Armour compensation skills that really help your armour tank. That is EW, Thermal, Kinetic and Expolsive. All four of them are quite usefull to minimize the damage armour is taking (that is if you use hardeners or resistance membranes).

Armor compensation helps with passive tanking, but not so much with active hardeners.

just to add: tanking is only part of the equation. piloting and weaponry skills (non-drone) have perception as the primary attribute. so focus on intelligence and perception.

I'm sorry if this sounds a bit noobish...but what's the difference between active and passive armor hardeners?

Active has to be activated manually by you... the same way you, for example, activate your afterburner. They also uses cap when active. Passive dont have to be activated and dont require any cap.

Active hardeners give 50% or better to the stat passive 20% or better [figures will vary with differnt mods - but that is about the ball park.]..

Agreed that tanking is only part of the equation. Perception is important...Memory is important if you want drones...intelligence important for electronics, engineering, mechanic, science, industry, heck just about everything. Perception important, as its the primary for most of the skill points available in game to fly ships. But - if you're going for one specific thing, say a Dominix drone ship, perception isnt as important because you're taking gunnery and missiles mostly out of the equation.
Me, for example, I have a dedicated drone-ship. Can't fire a gun nor missile if I tried. Don't want to. I've only trained up Gallente ships in Spaceship command, so Perception is very un-important for my character. I can tank and defend my ship with the best of them out there, though. ---------- My Sig is DEV-Proof, Color-Proof, and Moderator-Proof. but not pink proof hahahahhahahahahahahaha -PINK You drunk Quafe monkey, Pink IS a color. |
