Does anyone have a hint for me how to run 2 accounts on same machine simultanously?
One of the sessions (different directories) keeps always (ramdom time) crashing. Machine has enough RAM.
Rumors are, that it is fubared since last patch.
Any hints? -- Kasha > Mastema, face the reality: All the juicy dots are gone. -- |

Molly, You can run up to three accounts on the same computer. What I have to do is minimize the accounts i dont need to be looking at the screen on. So one is active other two are minimized. If you need to switch then you just minimize the active on and maximize the one you want. I general due this in windowed mode with TS going on and or occasionally eve radio.
I dont have a super computer mine is just a p4 with 1gig of ram and a ti4600. Nothing special. Enjoy the game, I know I am

Never had a problem Molly.
Tip though: Copy the entire cache folder from your first (original) install into the second isntall.
Most common problem with running two accounts (that i have come across) is corrruption in the cache when trying to generate various image files.. copying the entire cache also helps cut down on even having to do that (saves the PC having to do a lot of work on the second client).

My roomate runs two windows on the same machine. Just install the complete program in two seperate directories. Simple as that :) ------------------

Edited by: Bobby Wilson on 03/11/2003 02:39:45 There's a while pile of threads talking about it on EVE-i.com. The main thing is to not do anything too challenging for the client/server relationship on both acccounts at once. When loading have the first client fully loaded and in space before starting the second. Character selection (before, during and after) is the worst time for 2 accounts, and I CTD regularly if I do it too fast.
And for heaven's sake's don't try to have the market open and tracking on both accounts at once.
There are does and don'ts of travel and combat as well, but you'll pardon me if our differing orientations in career choice encourage me not to go that far. I do recommend EVE-i very strongly.
BW
I agree with Lotsa. You only need one install. In fact my experiments with 2nd install were less stable, the two clients seemed to use each other's cache and muck each other up more often.

Cool, congrats.
Oh, stupid idea by the way.

Well as everything with EVE, it appears to be totally random.
Personally I run 2 TQ clients and one Test client at the same time on my computer. The display lag can be a *****, but it's rock solid as far as crashes and stuff are concerned. I usually also boot up the first two clients at the same time aswell and everything always goes fine.
I'm using an XP2000+, Radeon 9700 pro and 1024 MB Corsair 333MHz DDR memory.

Yeahr andom as hell.
I had nothing but trouble running from one install - was a total waste of time and effort event rying.. crash city.
Running from multiple installs its been rock solid... i v v v rarely CTD even when running three clients (2 TQ and 1 Chaos).
I also havent had any problems atl all with doing thing simultaneously up to and including fighting, market, logging in.. you name it.

Okay, I am a victim of the randomness then :-(.

I had the same random problems you are having. My problem was the latest Nvidia drivers. I installed some old drivers (driver version 2.9.4.2 - Date: 5/3/2002) and they work like a charm. If you have a Gforce 4 it's worth a try. I'm running 3 accounts at the same time with these drivers with no problems.

I dont think you should try multiboxing at all on a 700MHz/512 ram machine.
Oh and it helps to have an Ati card with the latest drivers if youre going to try and choke your machine. Drivers that automatically reset your videocard are clearly the pwn!

what this thread says to me is that when I log in and there are 3000 people playing... it's actually about 2000 with multiple accounts.

Molly, you have to disable the "Sun is occluded by ships" option (press ESC, it's on the Generic tab) on both accounts you run.. That's what causing the random crashing. Go CCP!

2 accts on 1 computer? 3 accts? omg...
So, what are you folks using? 21" monitors, or piped right out to a 65" big screen RGB Monitor?
I haven't see a way to make EVE smaller than 1024x768 on a 19"...

I run in 1280x960 windowed mode. No problem, just alt+tab between them

I run 2 windowed accounts. Works well for me. Occasionally I do get odd caching problems where the BG might appear all white, or my warp tunnel gets messed up. But thats about it.
Sometimes I even do video capture at full screen res while playing =)

ive also found aluminum foil bunny ears on the monitor are surprisingly effective against the randomness. I think it even cuts down on CTDs and stuck characters too.
But the latter might just be my lucky hat. _________________ "For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack."

I turned off the sun-occluded-by-ships option just because it doesn't DO anything. But oh well.
I have an Athlon 1400, with 512Mb. It will run two copies of EVE, but it doesn't like it very much.
