My fellow inhabitants of New Eden,
Just having read the news about groups of students wanting changes in the universities they are attending to. Do you think this might escalate? I see that this is no small matter... Could this, perhaps, be the begginning of a revolution which will change the ways new capsuleers recieve their education? Some students even wanted to open up a new education available to all races of the universe. What if the governments don't approve? Will the universities turn away from their loyalties and perhaps even start a sixth faction?
What do you all think of these events?

i know a good part of you folks has graduated from either universities or naval schools. ask yourselves, do you know any ex fellow students that would go about rioting for that kind of thing?
see, i'm all in favor of trans-empire research projects, i still think crielere failing was one hell of a setback for humanity as a whole... but i wouldnt go about burning planetary vehicles or something to see a humanitarian project of transcultural communication and collaboration like that launched. it kinda contradicts the point, doesn't it?
so, either the powers that be are trying to get a better grip on universities by denouncing peaceful protests as riots, or there is something else amiss...

This is indeed troubling news, so I'll be keeping my eye on it. I'll also support any transempire actions that this may lead to, no matter if its setting up a new university or a new transempire research project.

I'm quite familiar with the problem; I've done a coupple papers that involved verious Caldari sources. You can get a data disc or two from the Science and Trade institue...if you're willing to go through mountians of paperwork and red tape. Joint projects are considred out of the question.
The article didn't mention which branch of Caille the protest took place at but when they say The University they usualy mean the main campus located planetside on Bourynnes III. I spent time alternately between the main campus and UoC Bourynes station. I knew a lot of people who were very vocal about it and that there were enough activist types in the humanities departments that could organize a protest (the other main area where this is a hot issue are the science departments but there are fewer charismatic scientists.) And yet, violence? I have to wonder if there were mitigating circimstances involved and from where or whoom they came from. There's this one group...no, I don't want to name names based on unfounded speculation.

There might be fewer charismatic scientists, but there are a great deal of rather short-tempered people (especially at anything that acted to slow their research) amongst my recent classmates in the science departments on Bourynes. That probably makes up for any lack of the charisma necessary to organise protests.
Still, violence out of the blue, without even a prior whisper of discontent? Gallente can be hot-blooded, but this seems...excessive. I share your curiosity - could there have been agents provocateurs at work?
