I really wish the skill bonus was range and not scan time.
Speed is a nice idea but about useless. I think a range bonus would make training the skill more encouraging.

I agree. A 5% or even 10% bonus to scan range would not imbalance the game. Nothing to see here .... move along. |

I think a range bonus would also help to find those "hidden asteroids" that are in fields that have been unused too long. You know where those unmined scordite roids become planet sized and you can no longer target the good roids because they got swallowed. Those roids become so big that even the current range of survey scanners can not locate the roids trapped inside simply due to range restriction.
Personally I have ran into roids I could only get within a 9k range before running into the roid. At that size both survey scanners and mining drones become useless. Scanners because of range and mining drones because they get lost trying to get within range to mine or get lost orbiting the roid.
Now if the survey range on the items were tweaked a bit higher and the skill increased that range further players would be able to mine the little roids trapped inside of the larger ones.
As it stands right now I see no point in wasting training time on the survey skill. The speed bonus is just too useless for one reason or another. Most players eat the entire roid once they start mining it, so why would they need to refresh to know what is left in it? On top of that at the speed most serious miners mine ore the survey result is outdated quickly.

I agree with you: the skill should be changed.
I can scan to a distance of 5500 and mine at 12000, its pretty useless
Range should be improved with skill, not speed.
I never use auto-scan because the noise it makes drives me mad - To Be or Not To Be ? It's hardly a question. |

Just thought I'd say that I agree! Just so it adds weight of numbers. Hopefully this will then get noticed *knocks on screen* "Helloooo, CCP, anyone reading this?" |

Been said before. Needs to keep being said until SOMEBODY LISTENS... :-)
Also, as noted above, scan needs to be sorted or sortable. Plus would be very useful if it highlighted the roids you currently have locked.

Only use I could come up with as to why you can autorepeat it is, turn it on and fly the length of a belt near the roids. By the time you get to the end you should have the majority of the roids loged in your scan results. In that use, time would be useful due to flying speeds might be greater than the refresh time on the scanner.
No matter what though, be it via skill or change of the mod, we need more range on those buggers. Heck, maybe the tech 2 version will have greater range

agreed it should be range not time, but even 10% per skill lvl is not enough to match laser range, should be 20% per level, then i would definitely think of training it to 4 or 5. ------------------------------------------ reality is too small for human imagination |

Yeh I agree Range should be increased. I was wondering if the use of any weapons mods would increase the range of scanners? There must be a way to increase the range some how!!!
