Today there was a supposed newspiece with an RP angle. Why did it have to degenerate as the event did with the reporter giving the ganker, goading the actor into a dual only to have his whole group there for a gank, his claim to fame by giving him the spotlights in the news?
He did nothing spectacular, he just did what his kind always does. Encouraging this behaviour by crediting them in the news for adding nothing to the event is very bad reporting.
Just chalk it down to the incursion being destroyed by local criminal elements or whatnot and credit people who make a difference. Reportedly there were a lengthy debate foregoing the destruction of the zealots ship, there if anywhere you'd find your feature pilot but of course you had to write about 'who make the boom'.

I thought it was funny in an odd sort of way and decently written. Less alliance warfare, technical problems and pseudopolitical fluff and more of an actual incident.
This isn't the Middle Ages. You may have noticed the spaceships. Bringing backup to a proselytizing madman's duel to ensure victory isn't honorable but it means you have one less raving nut and you go home intact.
It's a game. Relax, you'll have a stroke.

Edited by: Khemul Zula on 24/10/2006 03:28:18 I thought it was rather nice. Funny and realistic.
They stated what actually happened. They gave credit to those involved. Sounds like standard news reporting to me. I personally like the news to appear as if people are actually involved.
If they are gonna report the event exactly as it was planned to happen and ignore those who are not on the event staff, then they shouldn't bother going through the effort of doing the event itself. They could just report it and pretend it happened in that case.

I'm not sure about this, but I may have been one of the participants in that lengthy debate. Sadly, a phone call I had to take prevented me from being at the "duel", or I would have gone down in flames alongside the cultists whom I vehemently disagreed with.
That being said, what's more newsworthy: A minmatar disrupting an Amarr cermon with pointed questions about the role of God, or an Amarr cultist assassinated at the peak of a heated cermon? If I were the News, I would probably have dropped my story too...

I can assure you, there was no duel aggreed nor even discussed between the ones taking the actor out and the corp mentioned in the news. It seems even a convo between myself and the CEO of the Blood Sephrim afterwards (the corp mentioned in the news) hasnt cleared that up.
I will eve-mail the event-actor and see if that can shine some light in the darkness.

Ever been to a military exercise?
1) Exercise begins 2) Order 3) Countering order 4) Bewilderment 5) Accident 6) Exercise ends 7) Punishment for the innocent 8) Random rewards
...just got reminded of something. Carry on, carry on. This is not the Federation Navy you are looking for.

Indeed I have been to a military excercise, several in fact, and my experience is:
1) Excercice begins 2) I get sent off into deep friendly territory to perform my vital duties 3) Nothing at all happens, no officers giving orders, no-one comes to pick up the resources I've gathered, no-one comes to deliver the rations I need 4) I take my truck and my squadron and head into town 5) Excercice over

If you think hard about what Roleplay is, it is anything that happens in the game. Events are not tightly scripted so any outcome is dynamic roleplay that goes down in the small history books of eve. No doubt the aurora actor was staying true to his character type by not declining such a challenge.
As for him being named specifically and not generally, then why shouldn't he? If the only people to be named in news items are those that were invited to the event or those that run the event, ie aurora, there would be no point in it all to begin with.
And 'making a difference' is exactly what this did. It changed the outcome of the event and that outcome made the news.
The sky is not falling. ------
