Anyone have any ship setups that solo L4s? I've seen a lot of active tank setups on these boards, but very few passive ones. Was curious if anyone is able to do it, or if it's even possible (or feasible, considering DPS and such). |

I'd say it's only possible with the passive tank skills maxed out and then only if you have the faction passive hardeners. BUT I've never tried it.

I passive tank my megathron in level four missions now, it does however require faction gear or at the very least t2. Of course, it is not true passive tanking, as armour has no natural regen. But there are many missions where a repper and active hardeners are not needed provided you can manage aggro correctly, I can't remember the last time I used an active hardener for mission running since I trained the armour comp skills. It does help that I pretty much know the current level 4 missions inside out now. So the short answer is yes it can be done but requires some of the better equipment available in game and a decent knowledge of level layouts. I also know a couple of passive shield tanking mission runners, but they went the whole hog investing in pirate implants to increase regen, hp's and whole warehouses full of faction gear, nice if you can afford it. I guess you can viably fit a command ship for a passive shieldtank for L4s. Also a dominix. But anything else doesn't really work as the passive tank that can hold in the harder level 4 missions requires so many slots that your gank goes to hell and thus the missions will take too long to complete. Thats why you mainly see active tanks, they allow tank+gank at the same time (at least on Ravens).
And a passively armortanking Megathron? lol. I want to see you do EA or WC with that... --------- ZOMG my sig was concordokkened! Link removed due to bad language on remote site. -wystler

Edited by: Hex''Caliber on 24/10/2006 12:15:25 Perhaps you would care to explain how, One internal force field array, Two corpum A-type energized nanoÆs Corpum A-type adaptive nano, 2 X 1600mm tungsten plate, giving 15041 armour hpÆs, still leaving one low slot free, all with armour comp 5 is in some way inferior to using t2 hardeners? This fitÆs for 80% resists and only the dc takes cap to run a massive 1 unit every 30 seconds. Yes worlds collide is easy to run this setup without having to turn on my repper, the Gallente version is Guristas/Serps doing kin therm damage, I can worry about repping any damage once the mission is over. However, using a faction ab giving me over 430m/s and having the sense to move away as soon as I warp in and before opening fire is soo hard to do. Combine that with 7 x 425mm prototype rails, t2 med drones then WC is for pussies. I donÆt run Ea as I am Gallente but then again neither did I say it was possible in every mission, third room in angel ex springs to mind as does slavers 2. For simple missions like pirate invasion and unauthorised military presence I drop both plates and the dc and fit t2 magstabs instead, and never once have to run a single rep cycle.

Edited by: Leandro Salazar on 24/10/2006 12:34:54 Well WC Guristas/Serps is indeed for pussies. Try the Angel/Sansha or Angel/Blood ones for breaking your tank :) And if you can't do the hard ones it is not really a viable setup imho since those are the most rewarding. I do Infiltrated Outposts in a passive tank as well (if you want to call an IFFA and a single EANII a passive tank :D) but I don't consider that a viable L4 setup. --------- ZOMG my sig was concordokkened! I used to tank Level 4 missions in my Ferox passively tanking with very few skill points. Once I had the skill set to switch to a Raven, I moved to a Raven active tank.
I imagine I would have no problem passive tanking them in a Ferox now. That said, a Ferox was a little light on damage to manage all the missions solo.
So yes, you can passive tank level 4 missions, you will probably have to bring along a friend to kill things at a reasonable rate for you if you use a Ferox however.

passive jaguar works for me. although cruisers begin to hit you every now and then with your increased signature, the speed prevents any heavier dents. just stay clear of webs with t2-AC-falloff-ammo, for example. but i'd still prefer an active tank in form of a wolf for more boomsticks

I've run a bunch of L4s solo in a passive-tanked Ferox. You can't AFK it (like you can with L3s) because eventually you will probably need to warp out, and the kill rate is pretty slow, but it can be done. Much more interesting/exciting than the usual Raven missioning.
5x hvy launchers, 2x whatever you feel like / can fit (I run 2x tractor beams) 1x invuln, 4x best large shield extenders you can buy (T2) 1x bcu, 4x Shield Power Relay 5xsmall (pref T2) drones for the inties & to add a bit of punch
Cap recharge is basically 0 (so be careful with rails/AM ammo in the other 2 high slots!), but shield is over 70/second, and total shield over 15k.
(I do have a shirtload of skillpoints, so YMMV if you are a 1mill character.)

I do all Lv4 missions in a passive tanked zealot...it costs a hell of a lot of isk though... corpum A-Type energised adaptive nano, with all my armour compensations at lv5 it gives me a 35.39% resistance across the board,. I also use specific corpum A-Type energised membranes, with skills they give me 55.625% resists. I always fly with a thermal one fitted and the fit which others are mission specific. For a merc mission I fit thermal, kin amd em membranes which give me the resists of...89% em, 89% kin, 87% exp and 81% therm. As you can see I have no probs with lv4 missions. I also have a corpum A-Type med armour repairer fitted, with my engineering skills I can keep this running all day

I never passive tank but if I did I would use my Nighthawk. I hardly have to use the SB when running missions because the tank is so strong. -----------------------------------------------
