I would like to first say I have not experienced such a open space sim, since my days in swg, and the idea that fleets can alter the story and set up of the game I find fascinating. It will take quite some time of playing around with the game before I get off the ground. Its complexity is both refreshing and difficult. To be honest thats fine with me.
My first question is, I read an article about manual control coming to Eve online, is this still going to happen? My second question is, I also read they are working a way for the ground game to be used by pc users, is there anything more recent on this point? The Idea of a ground battle as a grunt, sounds extremely fun. I am a pc player first, pcs are more long term money wise, then consoles.
Last but not least. I mean no insult to the current players or long term players, but how is the game doing these days? From what Ive gathered its gone through some major changes over time. Just asking, to get a handle on things in eve online.
Thanks for any information you can share. |

Manual control, in the WASD sense of the word already exists, but only in a very loose sense. Honestly, I and many others find that such a thing has no place in EVE just because of how EVE was designed. Manual control the way many dream of in EVE just isn't realistically in the cards because of how the game handles commands (1 second server tics) and the interface being in no way optimized for such an experience.
I can't comment on the ground based tie ins since I don't really follow that.
The game seems to be doing just fine as far as I can tell. Then again I'm still less than a year old so take it with a grain of salt, but my educated opinion/guess is it's doing better than ever.
Welcome to EVE Pars.

The game was greatly improved over the last 10 years, esp. for new players. There are still problems that may or may not be addressed in the coming summer expension. The player base is pretty stable if one takes into account that plenty of botters got removed from the game in the last two years.

1)we got "wsad" controls, to enable them go to the esc menu ingame and they can be found under "shortcut" in the navigation tab .
They have limited useable scenarios (very cool mind you) though it's unlikely you're going to see the benefits in those areas until you're a bit more familiar with the gameplay.
2) "Project Legion" is what you want to look into, its looking likely to be what Dust 514 promised (and failed spectacularly) to be. I came to the franchise from dust and fell in love with eve so I have been keeping an eye on this, look at last year's fanfest videos on CCP 's YouTube channel. <--------[warning, this video may cause an irrational exuberance enthusiasm for getting involved with the community]
Word of warning : CCP have a questionable history regarding Diversification so manage your expectations accordingly. I'm Cautiously optimistic but reserve any actual hope or enthusiasm until I see gameplay.
3) state of play, this is a hard one to give a straight answer to but I'll try.
Much is changing, much more so than in the past And opinions are as many and as varied as you would expect. active numbers are down a bit but there's more New blood (a lot actually), mechanicaly the game is better than ever but the bitter veterans are pissing and moaning (as you would expect) about literary everything under the Sun
Imo it's fine.
Once you get your bearing you should join a player corporation, The players are the content here so do come and play with us.
Welcome aboard.

Welcome!
To emphasize Ralphs nice summary:
Players are the content, finding the nice guys and bad guys to play with ( imo you need both ) will go a long ways towards getting your bearings and figuring stuff out.
Its an easy trap to fall into thinking that your not 'ready' to play with others, helpful or harmful. |

Welcome aboard - what SWG server were you on back in the day? Main thing with ship control, you don't fly the ships, so much as you captain the ship
here is the ongoing graph of eve players vs different timescales http://eve-offline.net/?server=tranquility
