So, I live in 0.0 space. I am still a nOOb ū shy 3mil sp. My primary income is my Raven. I have never mined so I rat. I have been a bit disappointed in the loot but its still a good money making system (about 6 to 10mil ISK an hour on bounty alone - the best I can hope for is Local hull Expander - woot - unless I get an officer and cross my fingers for an implant, that has not happened).
Is running level 4 missions in Empire better / worse / same, than ratting? I understand with level 4 missions you can get implants for the loyalty points and they can be very lucrative to sell / or use. Is it possible to solo level 4 missions in raven?
I think I would do both as ratting in 0.0 gets a bit grindy (not that missions are not but variety canĘt hurt). Just want to know if its worth it.

NPCing/Missions are both a grind really, like mining. It really depends on the true security ratings of the systems where you perform those activities. A 0.0 system with a true sec rating of -0.70 and lower offers plenty of 1 mil+ bounty NPCs and plenty of high-end ores. If such as system were to have a level 4 agent, it would give better rewards and more LP than a level 4 agent in a 0.5 system of the same quality.
Reason to go running missions is really for the loyalty points you build up with them as you complete missions. Get 500k of them or so and you get an offer for a faction BS. Depending on the type, you can sell it for around a bilion ISK, maybe less, often more. But, like you said, it's a grind

Bear in mind the typical level 4 is much harder than a 0.0 spawn.
Its been a long time since I was a noob but I think 3mill SPs will ensure you have rough time if your set up and tactics are wrong.
I love old characters that post 'I've beeen playing the game three years' when I know their account has been sold on.

I think the answer to this question depends somewhat on the aspects of your character. For example, my main weapon system is drones. They can be nasty, but very dangerous for missions. On some missions you are supposed to take out one group at a time. When you launch drones all of the groups will agro and start coming for you. Little frigs start pinking on you keeping you from warping out and soon that BS is space dust. I find ratting in 0.0 much safer and more short-time compatible then running lvl4 missions. It can be done, of course, but you have to know what the mission needs are and have the skill set to use the required items.

I have heard this a lot, and I do not share the experience. My main fightingskills are also in drones, I do lvl4 missions in a Domi and it is not difficult to takeout 1 group at a time. NPC's will usually aggro when shot at, in my experience. Either keep your drones tightly reigned, or do not release them before YOU are targeted. With the exeption of sentries, most drones do not have the range to aggro every group. I usually shoot at 1 group with a gun(med), they come and attack me and I release my drones. Works everytime. Do I succeed in every mission? No, but that is not because of the drones aggroing every NPC. ----- FreeHansje
