Hi there, I made a trial account yesterday and have been trying diffirent things with two characters. With both I get stuck after a few hours, realising that I took the wrong skills somewhere along the charmaking screen or that I just don't know where to go. I've read the entire guide on this website aswell as allot of stickied treads on the diffirent forums. Is this game supposed to be so overwhelming? How do you get a grasp of it, what to do, where to go?
Some help would be appreciated, I realy want to play this game I just don't know how to.
Thanks in advance and sorry for my bad English.

You can't edit your post? Odd...
Anyway, try to take it slow. Taking the "wrong" skills at the beggining isn't a tragedy, as you'll get to the point where you're training a million skill points a month (and I mean that quite literally).
If you need a skill you don't have (and there are important skills that you can't start with), you can buy it off of the market. If you take a skill you don't want, you may just end up using it some day.
If you're overwhelmed at the start, just take a deep breath and decide to start doing something, and getting a feel for things gradually. Start with a level one combat agent (the Command, Surveillance, Intelligence, Security, and Internal Security divisions are all good for this) and get a taste for combat against NPCs. Check out my Science and Industry guide if manufacturing is your thing. If you decide you would quite like PvP, keep an eye out for a PvP corp accepting newbies.

When creating a character, you want to get your Int, Per, Wil, Mem attributes as high as possible, and leave Cha where it is by default.
For skills, a lot of people go "custom" and follow the Ship Command path to get the skill to fly frigates as high as possible, that way they can jump into a better frigate right from the start. Others maximize Gunnery (to 5), saving about a week in training time. Others just pick whatever looks interesting.
Starting skills don't matter much because you can buy and learn whatever you need; simply open the market, find the skills section, and look through.
All the items and skills shown on the market have an Info button (it's blue), or you can right-click and choose Show Info, to see not only what they do, but also prerequisites, etc. A lot of people decide "ok I want to fly Frigate X", then they look at the info on it to see what skills are required, and train that. In addition, they also figure out what guns, and modules (shields, afterburners, cargo expanders?) they want to fit, and look at the info for those modules to see what skills are required. Then they buy the skills and go to work learning them.
If you wish to skip the tutorial, you can close it, then hit ESC, and uncheck the "Show Tutorial" checkbox there. It's recommended that you do talk to the agent in the starting station, he or she will give you two missions and then send you on your way, but this way you get the preliminaries for agent missions out of the way.
You can mine (look for a frigate that has bonuses to mining, or a big cargo hold), do agent missions (talk to the starter agent, or find another agent by looking at the info for your race, and picking a corporation out of the list, then looking at its agents), you can fly around the belts of 0.8 or lower systems and shoot NPC pirates, or you can look at getting an industrial and hauling stuff, or playing the market. You can join a player corp (join the recruiting channel to see if any are recruiting, or read the Recruitment forums here), etc.
There is no need to restart so many times. You can't really mess up your character, and with the hundreds of skills on the market (most are required), the 5-6 you get at character creation don't matter much.

Use the character and places function to search for NPC corps, like your starter corp or corps of your race. e.g. minmatar = republic fleet for example. Look at the info for the corp and their should be an agents tab. find a low level 1 agent in secure space and travel there.
This will all be very overwhelming to start with. Best place to ask questions is your races public chat channel. This can be accessed from another icon on the right hand side tool bar. I forget which as i am not logged in atm.

Only for a courier, as collateral.
Try a kill mission instead.

I made my startup money this weekend by making sure I had a Basic Miner fitted on my ship, undocking, right-clicking in space when I was outside the station and going to the Asteroid belts. It's easy to mine, fill up your ship, come back and sell it...do that for a little while, get used to bookmarking, flying around, check out the market while you're mining, get used to reprocessing back at the station, see if you can figure out what to ask for your ore...it'll sell pretty quick at the default price, but you might be able to make a little more money if you do some traveling.
And before you know it, you'll have some ISK stashed away :)

OK, if you want a good start, click here and go use the eve tool. It allows you to make a character BEFORE getting into the game, so you can see what skills are selected etc, and how that will effect your startup.
Link: http://www.warbear.net/index.php?page=gaming&subpage=evetool
This second link is useful in it tells you waht skills are used for what type of "profession" as such: Linkage
Hope that helps some.

Don't do those missions. The "mission" tab in a station is very much misleading. That mission tab is used for escrows (trading market) and courier missions (which is a bit of a snakepit at times).
Go to your people&places tab, then to the agents tab. Find some agent you like to work for and start off there. go to their system/station and talk to them. If you're done the tutorial you'll have nice bunch of different agents for all kinds of different careerpaths in EVE (that's why it took so long). Pick the one you feel most comfortable with and start doing his missions.
