Except that the earth is slowly dying, and can support less and less people (not calculating any hypothetical new, economic ways of producing food, etc). Plus, even if all those people die, and there is enough food for you once again, it wont do you much good if its all toxic.
Oh, and BTW, a lot of people are already dying because you and I use up far more resources than we need, instead of helping those in need. -EDIT- Didnt mean to imply that you arent helping, or that you are less generous than anyone else, I'm talking about people in general here, really.

Probably since US is one of the worst countries in the world when it comes to pollution, and producing waste. There was at least one question (or was there 2 of those?)in that test in which you had to compare yourself with those around you. This would explain why there are differences when you choose another country, since an american is not comparing himself with the same thing as a dane.

I guess I'd have to see some numbers on waste, me compared to a Dane...

US vs Denmark: US is bigger meaning more transportation. US has as far as I know not as good public transportation. US people, if we compare the percentage of "fatties", consume more food than the "average" Dane. Denmark has stricter policies and laws about nature. (USA havn't signed the Kyoto treaty among other things) US has more heavy industries than Denmark I think. Steel mills, refinerys etc.
I'm sure there are more things but these are those I can think of and allthough I'm just pulling this out of my arse and don't suply sources they should at least proove a part of it if one does some research.

Questions such as "Compared to people in your neighborhood, how much waste do you generate?" could be based on the local average. Therefore, if you answer "about the same" in the US, it will assume that you are producing more waste than if you come from Sweden or somewhere like that.
Also, the average fuel efficiency of cars in the US is worse than in many other developed countries, so the pollution produced per mile is likely to be more.

Edited by: Bhaal on 25/10/2006 14:13:22 OK, yes:
Public transportation does not make sense for many Americans except those who live & work in a large city.
There is no public transportation for me to get to work, even if I wanted too...
Yes, there may be more heavy Industry, but that has nothing to do with how much garbage I put to the curb compared to a Dane.
I live right next to Niagara Falls, that's how we generate electricity in my area, no coal or nuclear electric plant...
I will concede that my vehicle uses more fuel than maybe a Dane's vehicle (I get like 15 MPG) But I can certainly choose, and many Americans do choose to drive "rice burner's", etc...
I just don't think I personally consume that many more resources living my daily life than a Dane does. Certainly not 9.4 vs. 4.1 As far as what I eat, how much I throw out every garbage pickup day... I doubt I produce 2.3 times more waste on a weekly basis...

Well, not how much YOU personally "put to the curb", but surely they have calculated "waste made by industries"/"people that consume the products of said industries". This raises your... ahm... "garbagepoints" also.

Good for them! (the riceburner people) But I seriously doubt people in Denmark burn as much gasoline per capita as US. For one thing the price on gas in Denmark is more than twice as expensive as it is in US, mostly because of high taxes on gas, I believe. Thats bound to make a difference.

Well then, if a Dane buys & drives an American car, how is it fair that his car's manufacturer counts towards my garbage points?
I don't know, the numbers don't seem to jive to me... But oh well...
I don't believe I'm an overly wasteful person, and was a bit annoyed by the differences I was seeing from that website...
