I have an idea for local, or was it the idea of a friend of mine?....not sure atm...but ok...lets say I discussed it with several ppl some month ago
what about not showing ppl in local as long as your corp/ally has no POS in the system with a little array online...call it "large system scanner" or sth this would give you a more realistic combat and advantage in your homelands..and enemys/neutral can no longer jump into your system and just check it with a look at the local...they have to fly arround and scan for ships...If it is your system and you have POSes/souverenity, why should a enemy/neutral jump into this system and get lots of intel on it in the first second? Also this would help a bit the pirates in the low sec systems...You can make it that way that in highsec systems the faction has a scanner running (at a station for exampel) that everybody can use(just an argument for the roleplaying ppl here) so there everybody can see ppl at the local...this idea can improve lowsec/0.0 I think...make it a bit more realisctic and give the "defender" in their own system an advantage
What do you think about this idea? Good or bad idea? Or am I the 235436 person with this idea and the post just made me look like an idiot ;)

I like this idea. Engaging an enemy without knowing his true in system strength? This would increase the role of a cov ops character in pvp and add a new dynamic to pvp in general.
Maybe you could have a ship mod that did the same thing for roving gangs - could be limited to a max scan range so as not to include the entire system but give you a tactical advantage over those that didnt have one in gang?

Edited by: Orin Fatch on 25/10/2006 01:28:52 I was just going to make a thread about this kinda thing, i agree completly.
High sec is controled by one of the races. Each and every race has a system scanner. So all armpire systems have local as nomral.. Or only for those that have high standings perhaps to that race..?
Same with 0.0, but u can use ur ships scanner which will pick peoples signarures up in local.
This also gives another huge role to covert ops, as they can jump in, scan out the enemy fleet numbers, rather then just reading it off a local chat channel.
Seems a lot more realistic. And has a good tactical side to it!

true..cov ops and command ships will increase in their importance this would be a huge step to advanced combat tactics perhaps you can make another module for stations...a large scanner able to scan the constallation....everytime I read this idea I like it more and more ;) so lets hope that a dev reads it..sure there are other things that are more important atm but a number on the "lets discuss it at the next dev meeting"-list would be great ^^

Another logical Step would make People flying a cloaked Ship not Visible in Lokal, even with System scanner. They only Pop up when uncloaking.
This would increase the versatilety of Cloaked ships since u can now wait at a Belt cloaked for Victims unnoticed by the usual signs in the local without reffering to cheap tricks like the login trap
