Hi there,
I am a 6 month old player (this character is bought) and have lightly dabbled in most things Eve has to offer, emphasising the lightly.
I have recently been carrying out Gueristas 4/10 complexes (Gueristas Scout Outpost) in high-sec and occasionally low-sec in a Vexor. I have been very unlucky recently - can't remember the last time I got a drop other than overseer effects - and wanted to get involved in higher difficulty DED sites. I am a Gallente pilot and I'm aware that the Ishtar is therefore the obvious choice for attempting these sites - although I am currently training for Tengu.
I wanted to ask if anyone would be kind enough to show me the ropes and perhaps run a few sites with me until I can competently complete them myself.
Please let me know if you're interested in taking on a carebear apprentice!
Kind regards,

Here's some advice, if you want to do low/nullsec DEDs as a carebear (you don't want to fight anyone) the first thing you need to do is forget Guristas DEDs. The best places to do Guristas lowsec DEDs, which also drop the best loot (Pithum A-Type Adaptive Invuln), are Black Rise/The Citadel and The Forge lowsec, which are highly contested and very populated parts of lowsec. You will get alot of people coming in to your sites and kicking you out and you'll basically never get anything done. You should go to other less populated parts of low/null if you want to do those kind of DEDs, finding a good place to do it without getting hunted is key.
OR alternatively you can do it in a PvP ship, get to know the locals and actually put up a fight so some random scrub can't just come into your site in an Ishtar and chase away your PvE Tengu. However some people will bring many people so those can be hard to deal with. |

Low sec is not the place, where "carebear apprentice" go to get more ISK. It is where they go to spend them. :) You want to go into low sec? get a PvP ship and join PvP corp. You will lose your farming toy there ... |

Thanks very much all of you for the advice.
I still want to do lowsec/nullsec DED sites as they're obviously lucrative but if not Gueristas then where should I go?
I am ready to lose ships if need be; as Aplysia said, the profits outweigh the input for the most part, don't they?
Thanks again,

you could try Blood Raiders. Amarr Empire hast vast regions of low with few people. With an ishtar (at least with armor fir) you can do all combat sites there and the loot is still quite nice. |

Yeah this is good advice, I don't have much experience with Amarr lowsec but I know it is definitely less populated than Caldari lowsec. Your first mission would be to roam these areas and find a good spot to set up base of operations. Be warned though, no matter where you go there will be local pirates who will eventually find out who you are and what you do and will probably cause you lots of problems. I know this because I first came to lowsec with a similar idea like yours, to farm lucrative DED sites but quickly found a group that knew what I was doing and would scan me down everytime they came across me in a system. Eventually I joined them and became the hunter rather than the hunted which made me far more income since I ran the DEDs in PvP ships in groups which while is less profit per site, allowed me to get far more sites done and rarely if never get kicked out if someone else scanned it down. |

Thank you again, good people, I'll definitely have a look into this.
Am I right in thinking Blood Raider sites are a bit harder than Gueristas ones? I've heard tell that they use capacitor warfare.
I will have a little roam around and see what I can find in the way of potential bases. I'm ready to accept that there will be pirates in most any place you go, eventually. When I gave these sites a go (very briefly in an Ishtar) before, I kept a Mobile Depot on me at all times so that I could fit a cloak etc if need be.
Most of the money I make from this is going towards ship replacement so that I can learn pvp simultaneously. I have it in my head that I want to be doing these sites/Incursions as my main income while using my 20m sp indy alt to find some constant, passive, industrial pursuit on the side.
Open question: does this sound like a realistic goal? |

My experience with Blood Raider sites is that as long as you have weapons fit with long range you can out range the neuts. But there could be some I haven't done where this is not the case. I found it to be much less annoying than the Gurista ECM jamming. |

If you want to learn PvP as well, I highly recommend joining a lowsec PvP corp that does these DED sites for income. You can do sites with buddies which as I mentioned will greatly increase your actual income compared to doing them solo. Your corp can also teach you how to PvP in lowsec which once again, will be far more effective if you have friends to help you as well as backup.
I would say to join my corp as we used to exactly fit this bill, but most of my corp members are inactive and personally I've burnt out doing DEDs and have amassed enough wealth that I can PvP quite comfortably without having to do PvE to fund my ship losses anymore.
However there are many corps out there that fit this bill, recruitment channel is a load of crap so don't start there. Try the forums or you can do it the way I did it which is start out solo, but keep an eye out for entities that run you out of DEDs and ask to join em. |

you will learn lowsec-pvp very fast. It's easy: -gatecamps (easily avoidable if you don't mess up) -waiting in ded sites (can be successful for them) -trying to catch you in the site with interceptors (but you have enough time to flee)
what will NEVER happen: an attack where you have any chance to win. Even if there is only 1 person in the system and he attacks you with a ship with chances for both. his friends(better: alts) are just waiting to log in / waiting in the next system. To 100 %. This gets boring quickly so you just don't engage. |

Edit: there is no benefit in running lowsec-DED-sites in a group as you have to split your income too.
First what you described isn't really PvP in the fighting sense, but just survival in lowsec.
And second, this statement isn't true at all especially if you're running DEDs in a populated area of lowsec. Yes you have to split profits, but you can run far more sites, and faster. Multiple people will have alts scanning stuff down and you can get all the sigs in an entire constellation scanned down extremely fast with scouts on each one. You can then proceed to blitz sites down extremely quick with the high dps from having group as well as kick out anyone else trying to run sites (which you know cause of scouts).
When my old corp and I were running DEDs in The Forge/The Citadel region of lowsec, we almost had a lockdown of the area, as long we were online nobody would be able to run the DEDs except the occasional bigger fish which would bring bigger blobs than ours to kill us, but this happened quite rarely since with multiple people running sites we could complete 5 and 6/10s in less than 10minutes easily so by the time these entities had scanned us down and were bringing tacklers in we were already moonwalking out with the loot.
So yeah, there are lots of benefits to run lowsec DED sites in a group. If you find a nice quiet area on a nice quiet timezone then yeah, you could probably make more. However usually if there's money to be made and people to be killed there will be someone there to make your life hard. |

bloodraiders are hard, in null an ishtar isnt too great because armor tanking and they will neut you out of cap if they get close enough, probably be ok in lowsec using an ishtar

As someone who did Blood Raider anoms in nulsec for a while - it's **** easy in an Ishtar. Sentries outrange anything that's remotely dangerous and shred it well before it does get in range. You should know too Lang :)
Obviously there are better ships to do Blood Raider anoms in, as 18-19mil ticks is really stretching it in an Ishtar but it works just fine.
Now, if you really want to just carebear at your leisure, what you should do is join one of the various renter corps down south in Omist, Feythabolis or Paragon Soul. That space is so far from empire that nobody really ever goes there and there are dozens and dozens of systems with good truesec there, with outposts and all, that are entirely unused.
You can just run sanctums there all day, making between 50 and 100m per hour depending on your ship and how many faction spawns you get, without nobody ever entering local. Getting loot out, if you bother to gather it, can be done via the wormhole express. It's a pretty easy way to get a lot of isk really fast.
Of course most of will likely end with fozziesov next june, but enjoy it while you can I'd say.
Although enjoy might not be the right word. Shooting rats is insanely boring. |

ofcourse anoms are easy in br space just warp in at 70km and drop drones and enjoy something else, ded complexes i wouldnt try in an ishtar though taking a gate and instantly being neuted with no mjd might not work out to well
